Playing Volleyball with Betting: What Is the Fine?

Based on Point c Clause 2 and Clause 6 Article 26 of Decree 167/2013/ND-CP, the provisions are as follows:

A fine ranging from VND 1,000,000 to VND 2,000,000 shall be imposed for one of the following gambling acts:

- Gambling using machines or illegal electronic games;

- Betting with money or by other means in sporting events, recreational activities, or other activities.

Seizure of objects, means of administrative violations, and confiscation of money gained from administrative violations shall be applied to the acts specified in Clause 1; Clause 2; Point a Clause 3; Points b, c, d Clause 4 and Clause 5 of this Article.

Accordingly, betting in recreational and sports activities is subject to a fine ranging from 1 million to 2 million VND. Thus, the penalty applicable in your friend's case is fully in compliance with the law, additionally including the seizure of money obtained from the above violation.
