Penalties for Driving a Car in the Opposite Direction on the Expressway
According to Point a, Clause 8, Article 5 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP, the following provisions apply:
Article 5. Penalties for drivers of automobiles and similar vehicles violating road traffic rules
A fine ranging from VND 16,000,000 to VND 18,000,000 shall be imposed on drivers committing one of the following violations. Among them:
Driving in the wrong direction on a highway, reversing on a highway, except for priority vehicles performing emergency tasks as prescribed;
In addition, the above violation also entails revocation of the driver's license for a period ranging from 05 months to 07 months;
And according to the provisions at Point a, Clause 1, Article 82 of the Decree, when committing the above violation, the authorized person imposing the penalty is permitted to temporarily hold the vehicle for a maximum of 07 days before issuing the penalty decision.
=> Thus, the act of driving an automobile in the wrong direction on a highway will result in a fine ranging from VND 16,000,000 to VND 18,000,000, revocation of the driver's license for 05 months to 07 months, and the automobile will be temporarily held for a maximum of 07 days before the penalty decision is issued.
