Expired Car Driver's License: Are There Penalties for Driving?
According to Article 59 of the Law on Road Traffic 2008:
- Based on the type, engine power, load capacity, and usage of the motor vehicle, driving licenses are categorized into non-expiry driving licenses and limited-term driving licenses.
- Limited-term driving licenses include the following categories:
+ Category A4 is issued to drivers of tractors with a load capacity of up to 1,000 kg;
+ Category B1 is issued to non-professional drivers operating passenger cars with up to 9 seats; trucks, tractors with a load capacity of under 3,500 kg;

and According to Clause 4a, Article 21 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP:
A fine ranging from 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND shall be imposed for the following violations:
Operators of cars, tractors, and vehicles similar to cars who possess an expired driving license for less than 06 months.
Thus, if your car driving license has recently expired and you participate in traffic, you may be fined from 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND. Additionally, the vehicle operator may be subject to temporary vehicle seizure according to Clause 1i, Article 82 of this Decree.
