Which date is the Capital Liberation Day? How many years is the anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day in Vietnam in 2024?
Based on Article 1 of Resolution 23/NQ-HDND in 2024 of the Hanoi City People's Council:
Article 1. Support activities for visiting and gifting the Vietnamese heroic mothers, policy families of people with meritorious services, veterans, people's public security, former youth volunteers who directly participated in the liberation of the Capital during the resistance war against the French, activities of the City's Leadership Delegation visiting and working in Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Tri province on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Capital Liberation Day; support for meeting retired generals, senior officers in Hanoi and military families, policy families of people with meritorious services in the forces of the Capital Command on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the All-People National Defense Day of Hanoi as proposed by the City People's Committee in Proposal No. 220/TTr-UBND dated June 22, 2024, from the City's budget.
Thus, Capital Liberation Day is October 10. In 2024, it marks the 70th anniversary of Capital Liberation Day.
The event of the Capital’s liberation on October 10 was not only a new bright chapter for Hanoi but also brought many lessons from the victory.
It can be said that October 10, 1954, Capital Liberation Day, is a significant milestone marking the complete defeat of French colonialism in Vietnam, opening a new era of development for the Capital and the country.

Are employees in Vietnam entitled to a day off for Capital Liberation Day?
Based on Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019 stipulating public holidays:
Article 112. public holidays
1. Employees are entitled to leave with full pay on the following public holidays:
a) New Year's Day: 01 day (January 1 of the Gregorian calendar);
b) Lunar New Year: 05 days;
c) Victory Day: 01 day (April 30 of the Gregorian calendar);
d) International Labor Day: 01 day (May 1 of the Gregorian calendar);
dd) National Day: 02 days (September 2 of the Gregorian calendar and 01 neighboring day);
e) Hung Kings' Festival: 01 day (March 10 of the lunar calendar).
2. Foreign employees working in Vietnam, in addition to the holidays stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article, are entitled to an extra 01 day of the traditional Tet holiday and 01 day of their National Day.
3. Annually, based on the practical conditions, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam decides the specific dates for the holidays stipulated in points b and dd of Clause 1 of this Article.
As per the above regulation, employees in Vietnam are entitled to leave with full pay on the following days:
- New Year's Day
- Lunar New Year
- Victory Day
- International Labor Day
- National Day
- Hung Kings' Festival
Additionally, foreign employees working in Vietnam are entitled to an extra 01 day of their traditional Tet holiday and 01 day of their National Day.
Thus, on October 10, Capital Liberation Day, employees do not get a day off with pay.
How many annual leaves do employees working under normal conditions in Vietnam get?
Based on Article 113 of the Labor Code 2019 stipulating annual leave:
Article 113. Annual leave
1. Employees who have worked for a full 12 months for an employer are entitled to annual leave with full pay according to the labor contract as follows:
a) 12 working days for employees working in normal conditions;
b) 14 working days for minor employees, employees with disabilities, and those doing heavy, hazardous, or dangerous work;
c) 16 working days for those doing extremely heavy, hazardous, or dangerous work.
2. Employees who have worked for less than 12 months for an employer are entitled to annual leave proportional to the months worked.
3. In case of resignation or job loss where annual leave has not been taken or fully taken, the employer must pay for the unused leave days.
4. The employer is responsible for specifying the annual leave schedule after consulting the employee and must notify the employee in advance. Employees can agree with the employer on taking annual leave in multiple installments or accumulating up to 3 years' leave at once.

According to the above regulation, employees working in normal conditions are entitled to 12 days of annual leave when they have worked for a full 12 months for an employer.
Additionally, for every 5 years of service with an employer, the annual leave is increased by 1 day (stipulated in Article 114 of the Labor Code 2019).
