What are requirements for the general education curriculum in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 31 of the Education Law 2019, the general education curriculum is regulated as follows:
Article 31. General Education Curriculum
- The general education curriculum must meet the following requirements:
a) Reflect the objectives of general education;
b) Specify the requirements regarding the qualities and competencies students must achieve after each level of education, the compulsory educational content applicable to all students nationwide;
c) Outline the methods, organizational forms for educational activities, and evaluation of educational outcomes for subjects at each grade and educational level of general education;
d) Ensure uniformity throughout the country and be implemented flexibly, suitable to the specific conditions of localities and general education institutions;
dd) Be broadly consulted with organizations and individuals and piloted before being promulgated; and be publicly announced after issuance.
- The National Council for Appraisal of the General Education Curriculum, established by the Minister of Education and Training, appraises the general education curriculum. The council includes experienced and reputable educators, educational administrators, scientists, and representatives of relevant agencies and organizations. At least one-third of the total members must be educators currently teaching the respective educational level. The council and its members bear responsibility for the content and quality of the appraisal.
