Is the Vietnam Journalists Association a political-social-occupational organization of Vietnamese journalists?

Pursuant to Article 2 of the Charter of the Vietnam Journalists Association issued with Decision 375/QD-TTg in 2023 stipulating principles and purposes as follows:

Principle, purpose

1. Vietnam Journalists Association (hereinafter referred to as the Association) is a political-social-professional organization of Vietnamese journalists. The Association is under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the management of the State, and operates in accordance with the law and the Association's Charter.

2. The Association represents the ownership, aspirations and legitimate interests of Vietnamese journalists, contributing to building the Vietnamese press as truly the voice of the Party, the State and the people's forum.

3. The Association gathers, unites, and encourages Vietnamese journalists to promote their creative capacity, contributing to building and protecting the socialist Fatherland of Vietnam, realizing prosperous people, strong country, democracy, fair and civilized.

Thus, the Vietnam Journalists Association is a political-social-professional organization of Vietnamese journalists.

The Association is under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the management of the State, and operates in accordance with the law and the Association's Charter.

What are tasks of the Vietnam Journalists Association?

Pursuant to Article 6 of the Charter of the Vietnam Journalists Association issued with Decision 375/QD-TTg in 2023 stipulating tasks of the Vietnam Journalists Association as follows:

- Build a clean, strong and effective Association organization in accordance with the law on the press, the Association's Charter and relevant legal regulations.

- Participate in monitoring compliance with press laws; Inspect and supervise the implementation of regulations on professional ethics of Vietnamese journalists and rules on the use of social networks by Vietnamese journalists.

- Reflect, advise and make recommendations to the Party, State and competent agencies in building and implementing strategies, planning, plans and development policies for the press and journalists, Legal documents on the press.

- Organize education and fostering political ideology, professional ethics, professional expertise and association work for members.

- Recommend agencies and organizations to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the Association and its members.

- The Association coordinates with press directing and management agencies and governing bodies of central and local press agencies in press activities according to legal regulations; Coordinate with state management agencies to propagate and disseminate laws on the press.

- Participate and coordinate press activities with foreign organizations and international organizations related to the press according to legal regulations; Cooperate and participate in regional and international press organizations in accordance with Vietnamese law and international practices.

- Participate in evaluating journalistic products and perform other tasks when requested by competent state agencies.

- Reward and discipline the Association's organization and members according to the law and the Association's Charter.

- Organize production, business and service activities according to the provisions of law to serve the Association's activities.

- Every year, the Vietnam Journalists Association reports on the Association's activities to the Ministry of Home Affairs and ministries and state management branches in the industries and fields in which the association operates according to the law.

What are powers of the Vietnam Journalists Association?

Pursuant to Article 7 of the Charter of the Vietnam Journalists Association issued with Decision 375/QD-TTg in 2023 stipulating powers of the Vietnam Journalists Association as follows:

(1) Propose to the Party, State, relevant departments, ministries and branches on policies and mechanisms for press development.

(2) Protect the legitimate rights and interests of members according to the provisions of law and the Association's Charter.

(3) Promulgate and organize the implementation of Regulations on professional ethics of Vietnamese journalists; Rules for using social networks of Vietnamese journalists.

(4) Organize press activities according to the provisions of law.

(5) Organize journalism awards to honor authors and groups of authors with high-quality journalistic works and positive social effects in accordance with the law. Select excellent journalistic works to participate in domestic and international journalism competitions.

(6) Propose to reward organizations, individuals belonging to the Association, and press agencies with outstanding achievements in journalistic activities according to the law.

(7) Establish organizations with legal status under the Association to operate in accordance with the principles, purposes, Charter of the Association and according to the provisions of law.
