Pursuant Article 7 of Circular 22/2017/TT-BYT stipulates the responsibilities of crew member employers as follows :
1. Organize periodic medical examination and examination for crew members under management in accordance with the provisions of labor law.
2. Carry out periodic health examination according to the provisions of Article 5 of this Circular.
3. Pay ME costs to the medical examination and treatment facility that performs ME for crew members according to the price of medical examination and treatment services approved by the competent state agency or according to the agreement between the two units.
4. Manage and monitor the health and health records of crew members according to the provisions of law.
Thus, ship owners who are employers of crew members must organize periodic health checks for their crew members according to regulations in Vietnam. You can make an application to ask the ship owner about this issue. If the ship owner does not handle periodic health checks for crew members, they can submit an application to the State Administration of Labor (Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs; Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) to solve.
How long is a crew member health certificate valid in Vietnam?
According to Clause 4 Article 2 of Circular 22/2017/TT-BYT regulations on issuance of Crew Health Certificates as follows:
4. Issuance of crew member's health certificates:
a) In case a crew member meets the health standards as prescribed in Appendix I of this Circular, the medical examination facility shall issue a health certificate to the crew member according to the form specified in Appendix V issued with this Circular. The health certificate is valid for 18 months from the date of signing.
b) In case a crew member meets the health standards as prescribed in Appendix I of this Circular but suffers from one or several diseases and illnesses specified in Appendix II of this Circular, and the ship owner sends a document The medical examination facility for crew members requests a health certificate and the crew member has a written commitment to voluntarily work on a ship according to the form specified in Appendix VI issued with this Circular, the head of the facility considers issuing crew members' health certificates according to the form specified in Appendix V issued with this Circular. The health certificate is valid for 12 months from the date of signing.
c) The crew member health certificate is made into 03 (three) copies: 01 (one) copy is sent to the crew member to be kept in the ship's records, 01 (one) copy is kept in the individual crew member's records by the crew member agency. The crew member management agency archives and 01 (one) copy is kept at the medical examination facility for crew members.
According to this Article, after examination, crew members who meet health standards will be issued a crew member health certificate in Vietnam, which will be valid for 12 months from the date of signing.

At Article 6 of Circular 22/2017/TT-BYT stipulates the responsibilities of crew members during medical examination as follows:
1. Provide complete and truthful information about your health status, medical history, and illness and be responsible before the law for the information provided.
2. Comply with the instructions and instructions of medical staff during the process of performing ME.
3. Proactively re-examine health after treatment for diseases or accidents that affect crew members' health.
4. Comply with medical examination requirements (periodic or irregular) of the state health management agency or the state management agency in transportation (Vietnam Maritime Administration, Provincial Department of Transport, centrally run city) or of the employer.
