What is the cost of rapid Covid-19 testing?

At Official Dispatch 5378/BYT-KHTC in 2021, guidance was provided on the payment rates for COVID-19 testing costs as follows:

Rapid test rates:

Implementation in accordance with section VI of Official Dispatch No. 4356/BYT-KH-TC dated May 28, 2021, as specified:

a) Before July 1, 2021:

- For Health Insurance (HI) subjects: implementation in accordance with the price of 238,000 VND as guided by Official Dispatch 4068/BYT-KHTC dated July 30, 2020.

- For subjects not covered by Health Insurance: implementation at the maximum price approved by the competent authority of 238,000 VND according to Official Dispatch No. 5834/BYT-KHTC dated October 27, 2020.

b) From July 1, 2021, practical and actual expenditure will be applied, specifically:

- Costs related to sample collection and test result delivery: consumables, utilities, labor: medical facilities will spend and settle according to the current state budget allocation for epidemic prevention and control.

- The cost of test kits will be in accordance with actual usage: expenditure and payment will be made for each patient's actual use of rapid test kits according to the approved bidding results in compliance with legal regulations.

For example, if the unit with competent authority approval for rapid test bidding results is 135,000 VND/test, and a person with HI card is eligible for HI payment and entitled to 80% of medical examination and treatment costs, the HI Fund will cover within the scope and rate of 135,000 VND x 80% = 108,000 VND for one rapid test. The co-payment part of 27,000 VND and any related costs for sample collection and test result delivery will be covered by the state budget under the current allocation.
