The Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, along with Tuoi Tre Newspaper, organizes and launches the contest "Proud of Vietnam" 2024 with the theme "Proud of 50 Years of Heroic City."

The contest aims to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the Communist Party (February 3), 50 years of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country (April 30), and 50 years since Saigon - Gia Dinh City officially named after President Ho Chi Minh (July 2).

The contest is divided into three sections. In particular, it includes members, youth in Ho Chi Minh City (Group A), team members, children in the city (Group B); readers of Tuoi Tre Newspaper (Group C) and individuals (freelance contestants, TikTokers, YouTubers, KOLs...), associations, groups (youth branches, association branches, union branches, union associations, faculty unions, student unions, associations, free groups... each group with no more than 3 members) who love to explore history, have projects about Vietnamese history, and want to participate in the contest (Group D).

The contest revolves around knowledge of Vietnamese history; history of the Communist Party; history of the municipal Communist Party and government of Ho Chi Minh City; life, career, thoughts, morals, style of President Ho Chi Minh; revolutionary history and tradition of the Youth Union and Ho Chi Minh City youth movement; the congresses of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and the nationwide union; history of the Vietnam Youth Union - Vietnam Student Union - Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Organization; traditions of Ho Chi Minh City students; heroic martyr examples, revolutionary predecessors of Vietnam...

According to Article 1 of the Charter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union 2022:

Article 1:

1. A member of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union is an exemplary Vietnamese youth who strives for the goals and ideals of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, has patriotism, national resilience; maintains a healthy lifestyle, is frugal, honest; actively and exemplarily engages in studies, labor, social activities, and national defense, closely associated with youth; strictly follows the laws of the State and the Charter of the Union.

2. Vietnamese youth aged 16 to 30, who actively study, work, and defend the country, gain an understanding of the Union, agree with the Charter of the Union, voluntarily participate in a grassroots Union organization, and have a clear background, are eligible for admission to the Union.

3. The process of admitting youth to the Union proceeds through the following steps and procedures:

- Youth wishing to join the Union voluntarily write an application, report their background, and receive introduction and assurance from one of the following groups or individuals:

+ A union member with whom they have worked or lived for at least three months.

+ The collective Youth Union of the Vietnam Youth Federation (if a member of the Vietnam Youth Federation).

+ The Executive Board of the Vietnam Student Union (if a member of the Vietnam Student Union).

+ The collective team (if a member of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Organization).

As such, Vietnamese youth from ages 16 to 30, actively studying, working, and defending the country, gaining an understanding of the Union and agreeing with the Union's Charter, voluntarily participating in a grassroots organization of the Union, with a clear background, are eligible to be admitted to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

What are the duties and rights of a member of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in Vietnam?

According to Article 2 of the Charter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union 2022, which outlines the duties of a union member in Vietnam:

- Always strive for the ideals of the Communist Party and Uncle Ho.

- Actively study, work hard, participate in social activities, build and protect the country.

- Exemplarily follow and mobilize children and teenagers to implement the Communist Party's guidelines and policies and the laws of the State.

- Participate in building and protecting the Communist Party, government, and people's organizations.

- Comply with the Charter of the Union and the Union's resolutions; actively promote the Union among youth; attend Union meetings and pay membership dues conformably.

- Maintain close contact with youth, actively build the Vietnam Youth Federation, the Vietnam Student Union, and other members of the Vietnam Youth Federation, Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Organization;

- Assist youth and team members in becoming union members.

Additionally, Article 3 of the Charter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union 2022 specifies the rights of Union members, including:

- Request the Union to represent, protect their legitimate rights and interests, and be assisted and facilitated in striving for growth.

- Nominate, recommend, and elect to the leading bodies at all levels of the Union.

- Be informed, discuss, question, criticize, vote, suggest, and preserve their opinions on the Union's matters.

- Participate in Union activities in their place of residence.
