What is Consanguineous Marriage?
Point d Clause 2 Article 5 of the Law on Marriage and Family 2014 stipulates:
2. The following acts are prohibited:
d) Marriage or cohabitation as husband and wife between people with direct blood lineage; between people who are relatives within three generations; between adoptive parents and adopted children; between individuals who have been adoptive parents and adopted children; between father-in-law and daughter-in-law; between mother-in-law and son-in-law; between stepfather and stepchild of the wife; between stepmother and stepchild of the husband;
Clauses 17 and 18 Article 3 of the Law on Marriage and Family 2014 provide the following explanations:
17. People with a direct blood lineage are those with a blood relationship in which one person is the direct successor of another.
18. People who are relatives within three generations are those with a common origin, including parents as the first generation; siblings with both parents, siblings with the same father but different mothers, or the same mother but different fathers as the second generation; and first cousins including children of uncles and aunts as the third generation.
Based on the information you provided, your great-grandmother and your lover's great-grandmother are siblings, making you and your lover part of the fifth generation. Therefore, your marriage with each other does not violate the legal prohibitions.
