Is it Legitimate for the Company to Deduct Salary for Being Late to Work?

I recently signed a labor contract with the company. After working for more than 2 weeks, I found out that if I am late, I will be fined. Each instance costs VND 100,000, but this regulation was not mentioned in the internal rules I read beforehand. Is the company acting correctly?

According to Article 124 of the Labor Code 2019 on forms of labor discipline, they include:

- Reprimand.- Extension of wage raise period by no more than 06 months.- Dismissal from position.- Termination of employment.

In addition, Article 127 of this Code strictly prohibits the following actions when handling labor discipline:

- Infringing upon the health, honor, life, reputation, and dignity of the employee.- Imposing fines or wage cuts in lieu of labor discipline.- Disciplining employees for violations not stipulated in the labor regulations, not agreed upon in the signed labor contract, or not provided for in labor laws.

Thus, although the employee is late for work, the company is not permitted to impose fines. Instead, only the disciplinary measures stated above may be applied.
