Inspection cycle for automobiles in Vietnam from January 1, 2025
Based on Section 2 Appendix 5 issued together with Circular 47/2024/TT-BGTVT, the automobile inspection cycle is regulated as follows:
Implementation Guidance:
(1) Initial cycle is applied as follows:
- Motor vehicles, specially used machines are exempted from the first inspection;
- Automobiles, trailers, semi-trailers, four-wheeled motor vehicles, four-wheeled cargo vehicles, specially used machines not yet used are subject to the first inspection (the year of manufacture to the year of the first inspection certificate is below 3 years (year of manufacture plus 2 years))
(2) Applied to periodically inspected vehicles; vehicles not subject to the initial cycle
(3) Applied to motor vehicles that are converted, which convert functions or change one of the systems: steering, brakes (except for cases where additional auxiliary brake pedals are installed)
(4) 60 months calculated from the date of manufacture for motorcycles, mopeds. In the case of motorcycles, mopeds in the database without information on the date of manufacture, it's calculated from December 31 of the year of manufacture.

What documents are required for first-time exemption from automobile inspection in Vietnam?
Based on Article 5 of Circular 47/2024/TT-BGTVT stipulating the application dossier:
Article 5. Application dossier
The application dossier for exemption from the first inspection for motor vehicles, specially used machines includes the documents required to be submitted and presented as follows:
- Documents to be submitted
a) Frame number, engine number rubbing document of the vehicle;
b) A copy of the quality inspection certificate at the factory (for domestically manufactured or assembled vehicles).
- Documents to be presented
a) Vehicle registration documents include one of the following: original vehicle registration certificate; a certified copy or an electronic copy certified from the original vehicle registration certificate; the original appointment slip for the issuance of the vehicle registration certificate.
b) Certificate of inspection results still valid (original or certified copy or an electronic copy certified from the original) for: lifting equipment with a design lifting capacity of 1,000 (kg) or more; human lifting equipment with a maximum lifting height greater than 2.0 (m); tankers carrying liquefied gas, liquefied petroleum gas, compressed natural gas or liquids with a working pressure greater than 0.7 (bar), or liquid or solid substances in powder form with no pressure but use high-pressure gas for dispensing higher than 0.7 (bar) as regulated in Decree 44/2016/ND-CP dated May 15, 2016, of the Government of Vietnam detailing certain provisions of the Law on Occupational Safety and Health.
The exemption from the first inspection for automobiles requires the presentation of the following documents:
- Vehicle registration documents include one of the following:
+ Original vehicle registration certificate
+ Certified copy or electronic copy certified from the original vehicle registration certificate
+ Original appointment slip for the issuance of the vehicle registration certificate
- Certificate of inspection results still valid (original or certified copy or an electronic copy certified from the original) for:
+ Lifting equipment with a design lifting capacity from 1,000 (kg) or more
+ Human lifting equipment with a maximum lifting height greater than 2.0 (m)
+ Tankers carrying liquefied gas, liquefied petroleum gas, compressed natural gas or liquids with a working pressure higher than 0.7 (bar) or liquid or solid substances in powder form with no pressure but use gas with higher pressure than 0.7 (bar) as regulated
What documents are included in the Dossier for requesting first-time automobile inspection in Vietnam?
Based on Article 7 of Circular 47/2024/TT-BGTVT, the Dossier for requesting first-time automobile inspection in Vietnam includes:

- Written request for inspection outside the registration facility (in case the vehicle owner makes a request)
- Frame number, engine number rubbing document of the vehicle
- A copy of the quality inspection certificate at the factory (for domestically manufactured or assembled vehicles)
- The original vehicle modification certificate (for modified vehicles)

+ Original vehicle registration certificate
+ Certified copy or electronic copy certified from the original vehicle registration certificate
+ Original appointment slip for the issuance of the vehicle registration certificate
