What are methods of high school enrollment in Vietnam?

According to Article 9 of the Regulation on Secondary School and High School Admission issued together with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT stipulating the methods of high school admission:

Article 9. Methods of High School Admission

  1. Annually organizes one (1) high school admission period.
  1. High school admission is organized in one (1) of three (3) methods: selection, examination, combination of examination and selection.

a) Selection: The basis for selection is the results of training and study from the academic years according to the secondary school or the continuous education program at the secondary school level of the applicants. If repeating a class, the result of the repeated year will be used.

b) Examination: Conduct as prescribed in Article 13 of this Regulation.

c) Combination of examination and selection: Conduct as stipulated in sections a and b of this clause.

There are three (3) methods of high school admission as follows:

- Selection: Based on the results of training and study from academic years according to the secondary school or continuous education program, if repeating a class, the result of the repeated year will be used.

- Examination:

- Combination of examination and selection.

  1. General education aims to develop learners comprehensively in ethics, intellect, physique, aesthetics, basic skills, personal capacity, dynamism, and creativity; forming the personality of the socialist Vietnamese citizen and civic responsibility; preparing learners for further education at the university level, vocational training, or participation in labor, construction, and defense of the Nation.
  1. Primary education aims to lay the initial foundation for the development of ethics, intellect, physique, aesthetics, and capabilities of students; preparing students to continue studying secondary school.
  1. Secondary education aims to consolidate and develop the results of primary education; ensuring students have foundational general knowledge, necessary minimum understanding about technology and career orientation to continue higher secondary education or vocational education programs.

High school education aims to equip students with civic knowledge; ensuring students consolidate and develop the results of secondary education, complete general education, and have common knowledge about technology, career orientation; have conditions to develop personal capacity to choose development pathways, continue education at university level, vocational education, or participate in labor, construction, and defense of the Nation.
