How long is the working time for teachers in Vietnam?
Based on Article 5 of the working policies for general education teachers issued with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT (amended and supplemented by Article 1 of Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT), the working time and annual leave are regulated:
Article 5. Working Time and Annual Leave
- The working time for primary school teachers in a school year is 42 weeks, including:
a) 35 weeks for teaching and educational activities according to the school year's time plan.
b) 05 weeks for learning and professional development.
c) 01 week for new school year preparation.
d) 01 week for year-end summary.
- The working time for lower and upper secondary school teachers in a school year is 42 weeks, including:
a) 37 weeks for teaching and educational activities according to the school year's time plan.
b) 03 weeks for learning and professional development.
c) 01 week for new school year preparation.
d) 01 week for year-end summary.
- Teachers' annual leave consists of summer break, Lunar New Year break, semester breaks, and other holidays. Specifically:
a) The annual summer break for teachers is 02 months (including annual leave as stipulated in the Labor Code), with full salary and allowances (if any).
b) The Lunar New Year break and semester breaks according to the regulations of the Minister of Education and Training.
c) Other holidays according to the Labor Code.
Based on the school year's plan, size, characteristics, and specific conditions of each school, the Principal arranges the annual leave for teachers reasonably according to conformity.

Article 6. Standard Teaching Period
The standard teaching period is the number of theoretical or practical lessons each teacher must teach in a week. To be specific:
- The standard teaching period for primary school teachers is 23 periods, lower secondary school teachers is 19 periods, upper secondary school teachers is 17 periods;
- The standard teaching period for teachers at ethnic boarding schools is 17 periods for lower secondary school and 15 periods for upper secondary school;
The standard teaching period for teachers at semi-boarding schools is 21 periods for primary, 17 periods for lower secondary school;
The standard teaching period for teachers at schools/classes for disabled persons is 21 periods for primary, 17 periods for lower secondary school.
