How long does primary education in Vietnam last?
Based on Article 28 of the Education Law 2019 specifying the levels and ages of general education:
Article 28. Levels and Ages of General Education
- The levels and ages of general education are specified as follows:
a) Primary education is conducted over 05 academic years, from first grade to the end of fifth grade. The age for entering first grade is 06 years and is calculated by year;
b) Lower secondary education is conducted over 04 academic years, from sixth grade to the end of ninth grade. Students entering sixth grade must have completed the primary education program. The age for entering sixth grade is 11 years and is calculated by year;
c) Upper secondary education is conducted over 03 academic years, from tenth grade to the end of twelfth grade. Students entering tenth grade must have a lower secondary education diploma. The age for entering tenth grade is 15 years and is calculated by year.

Based on Clause 2, Article 27 of the Primary School Regulation issued together with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT specifying the responsibilities of teachers:
Article 27. Responsibilities of Teachers

- Teachers performing homeroom duties, in addition to the responsibilities specified in Clause 1 of this Article, have the following duties:
a) Proactively understand information about each student in the assigned homeroom class; develop educational activities for the class that clearly reflect the objectives, content, and educational methods, ensuring feasibility and suitability for the characteristics of students, with the situation and real conditions aiming to promote the progress of the entire class and individual students.
b) Carry out educational activities according to the plan built and approved by the principal.
c) Closely coordinate with parents or guardians, other teachers, team leaders, and related social organizations to organize educational activities and support, and supervise the learning and training of students in their homeroom class; compile assessments, evaluate students at the end of the first semester and the school year; guide students in voting and proposing rewards; list students proposed for staying at the same class; complete student transcripts.

Thus, primary level homeroom teachers have the following duties:
- Implement the primary education curriculum and the school's educational plan.
- Independently implement and take responsibility for the educational plan; be autonomous, and accountable for performing professional tasks (content, educational methods, student assessment) and individual student education quality in the assigned class, ensuring compliance with the educational program, suitable for student audience and school-specific conditions.

- Apply information technology in teaching, learning, and professional activities; be creative and flexible in self-making teaching aids.
