As of September 2024, more than 40 universities have utilized the results of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology's Thinking Skills Assessment Exam for university admissions, including:

What are types of higher education institutions in Vietnam?

According to Clause 2, Article 7 of the Higher Education Law 2012 (amended by Clause 4, Article 1 of the Amended Higher Education Law 2018), higher education institutions are organized into the following types:

[1] Public higher education institutions, which are state-invested and ensure operational conditions.

[2] Private higher education institutions, which are invested by domestic or foreign investors and ensure operational conditions.

Non-profit private higher education institutions are those where investors commit to operate non-profitably, which is recorded in the decision allowing establishment or conversion of the institution type. They operate without profit, do not withdraw capital, or earn interest; and the accumulated annual profit belongs to the unified, undivided ownership to continue investing in the development of the higher education institution.

What are the objectives of higher education in Vietnam?

Based on Article 5 of the Higher Education Law 2012 (amended by point a, clause 2; clause 3, Article 77 of the Vocational Education Law 2014), the objectives of higher education are defined as follows:

Article 5. Objectives of Higher Education

  1. General objectives:

a) Educate manpower, raise national intellect, nurture talents; conduct scientific and technological research to create knowledge and new products, serving the requirements of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense, security, and international integration;

b) Educate learners to have political qualities, ethics; possess knowledge, professional practice skills, research capacity, and technological application development appropriate to the education level; be healthy; have creativity and occupational responsibility, adapt to working environments; be conscious in serving the people.

Thus, higher education has the following objectives:

[1] General Objectives

- Educate manpower, raise national intellect, nurture talents

- Conduct scientific and technological research to create knowledge and new products, serving the requirements of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense, security, and international integration;

- Educate learners to have political qualities, ethics

- Have knowledge, professional practice skills, research capacity, and technological application development appropriate to the education level

- Be healthy

- Have creativity and occupational responsibility, adapt to working environments

- Be conscious in serving the people

[2] Specific Objectives

- Educate undergraduate level for students to have comprehensive expertise, master natural and social principles and laws, possess basic practical skills, be capable of independent work, creativity, and solving discipline-related issues

- Educate master's level for learners to have foundational scientific knowledge, deep skills for research in a scientific field or effective professional activities, be capable of independent work, creativity, and ability to identify and solve discipline-specific issues

- Educate doctoral level for researchers to have advanced theoretical and application expertise, the capacity for independent, creative research, new knowledge development, discovery of natural and social principles and laws, and solving new scientific and technological problems, as well as guiding scientific research and professional activities.
