The 10th grade entrance exam schedule is announced by the Department of Education and Training of each locality. There is currently no official announcement about the 10th grade entrance exam schedule for students in 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam. However, typically, the 10th grade entrance exam takes place in June each year including two days of exams.
For Ho Chi Minh City, in the 2023-2024 school year, the 10th grade entrance exam took place over two days (June 6, 2023 and June 7, 2023).
However, in the 2024-2025 school year, the 10th grade entrance exam schedule may change. Therefore, candidates need to follow the official information from the Department of Education and Training of their locality to know the exact exam schedule.

What are the conditions for the 10th grade entrance exam in Vietnam?
Article 5 of the Regulations on the Admission of Secondary Schools and High Schools, issued together with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT, stipulates the following regulations on the target and methods of admission:
Target and Methods of Admission
1. The target of admission is students who have graduated from junior high school in the General Education Program or the Continuing Education Program with the age according to the provisions of Clause 2, Article 2 of this Regulation.
2. High school admission is organized in one of the following three methods:
a) Admission based on the results of training and learning in the 4 years of junior high school of the target students, if repeating any grade, then taking the results of the repeat year of that grade.
Examination.b) A combination of examination and admission.
Article 4 of the Regulations on the Recognition of Secondary School Graduation, issued together with Decision 11/2006/QD-BGDDT, stipulates the following regulations on the conditions for applying for graduation:
Conditions for applying for graduation
1. Students who have completed the secondary school program are not over 21 years old, and students who have completed the continuing educational secondary school program are 15 years old or older.
In the case of early learning or skipping grades, it must be implemented in accordance with the regulations on early learning and skipping grades of the Ministry of Education and Training.
2. No more than 45 absences in the 9th grade (be absent in one time or multiple times).
3. Secondary school students and continuing education secondary school students (hereinafter referred to as learners) are not in the period of serving a prison sentence or being deprived of civil rights, except for students of schools and classes opened for people who are serving a prison sentence or being deprived of civil rights.
Thus, candidates who are eligible to participate in the 10th grade entrance exam must meet the following conditions:
- Have graduated from junior high school in the General Education Program or the Continuing Education Program.
- Have completed the secondary school program no later than the age of 21, and continuing educational secondary school students must be at least 15 years old.
Who are entitled to extra points when taking exam for 10th grade in Vietnam?
At Clause 2, Article 7 of the Regulations on the Admission of Secondary Schools and High Schools, issued together with Circular 11/2014/TT-BGDDT (amended by Clause 4, Article 1 of Circular 05/2018/TT-BGDDT, and supplemented by Article 1 of Circular 18/2014/TT-BGDDT), the Department of Education and Training stipulates the extra points for each group of beneficiaries with the difference in extra points between two consecutive priority groups being 0.5 points on a scale of 10, including:
[1] Group 1:
- Children of martyrs.
- Children of war invalids with disabilities of 81% or more.
- Children of disabled soldiers with disabilities of 81% or more.
- Children of persons who are granted the certificate of a person enjoying the same policy as a war invalid who is 81% or more disabled.
- Children of people who were exposed to Agent Orange during the war of resistance.
- Children of people who participated in the revolutionary movement before January 1, 1945.
- Children of people who participated in the revolutionary movement from January 1, 1945 to August 1945.
[2] Group 2:
- Children of Heroes of the Armed Forces, children of Labor Heroes, children of Vietnamese Women Heroes;
- Children of war invalids with disabilities of less than 81%.
- Children of disabled soldiers with disabilities of less than 81%.
- Children of persons who are granted the certificate of a person enjoying the same policy as a war invalid who is less than 81% disabled.
[3] Group 3:
- People whose father or mother is an ethnic minority.
- Ethnic minorities.
- Students who live and study in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions.
