Expected: High School Graduation Exam in 2025 in Vietnam will have 11 subjects
On September 8, 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Announcement 1489/TB-BGDĐT in 2023 on the conclusion of Minister Nguyễn Kim Sơn at a meeting on the draft plan to organize the High School Graduation Exam from 2025.
As prescribed in the Announcement 1489/TB-BGDĐT in 2023, the planned plan to organize the High School Graduation Exam from 2025 is as follows:
1. On the purpose of the exam, the exam time: Maintain the purpose and significance of the High School Graduation Exam as stated in the Draft Plan that was announced on the Ministry's website for public comment. Implement good decentralization and responsibility in organizing the exam; research to organize the exam every year at an earlier time than now.
2. Organize the exam by subject, including compulsory subjects and elective subjects in the 2018 GDPT Program: Vietnamese, Mathematics, Foreign Languages, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics and Law Education, Technology, Computer Science.
Research, clearly explain the legal basis, practical basis, new points and major difficulties and obstacles in implementation to consider, select the number of exam subjects of the exam plan.
3. Examination form: The subject of Vietnamese is tested in the form of an essay; the remaining subjects are tested in the form of multiple choice.
4. Exam content: Adheres to the required levels of competencies and essential knowledge of grade 12 in the 2018 general education curriculum. There is a suitable roadmap to increase the content of competency assessment each year in accordance with the time students study according to the 2018 General Education Program of students.
5. Graduation assessment method: Combines the results of continuous assessment and the results of the graduation exam.
However, recently the Ministry of Education and Training has corrected the item of organizing the exam according to subject, including compulsory subjects and elective subjects in the 2018 General Education Program must add the subject of Geography.
Therefore, it is expected that the 2025 High School Graduation Exam will include the following 11 subjects: Vietnamese, Mathematics, Foreign Languages, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economics and Law Education, Computer Science, Technology.
Note: The plan for the 2025 High School Graduation Exam is still not official and is still under public comment.
According to current regulations, what subjects are included in the High School Graduation Exam in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 3 of the Regulation on high school graduation exam issued together with the Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDĐT stipulating as follows:
Papers
The exam consists of 5 papers, including: 3 independent papers are: Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language; 1 paper of natural science (a combination of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology); 1 paper of social science (a combination of History, Geography, and Civic Education) with respect to students of compulsory education program at high school level or the papers of History and Geography with respect to students of continuing education program at high school level.
As regulations above, the exam consists of 5 papers, including:
- 3 independent papers are: Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language;
- 1 paper of natural science (a combination of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology);
- 1 paper of social science (a combination of History, Geography, and Civic Education) with respect to students of compulsory education program at high school level or the papers of History and Geography with respect to students of continuing education program at high school level.
The Government has requested the Ministry of Education and Training to soon announce the plan for the High School Graduation Exam from 2025 to ensure that it is concise, effective, and reduces pressure and costs.
As precribed in the Article 14 of Resolution 144/NQ-CP in 2023, the Government requires the Ministry of Education and Training to coordinate with relevant agencies and localities to carry out the following tasks:
a) Urge, inspect, and coordinate with localities to effectively address the situation of local teacher surpluses and shortages, inconsistencies between levels of education, and insufficient teachers to meet the regulations, especially teachers to implement the new general education curriculum. Direct, guide, and inspect localities in implementing the plan of tasks and key solutions for the 2023-2024 school year.
b) Complete the Planning for the network of higher education and teacher education institutions for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, and the Planning for the system of specialized education facilities for persons with disabilities and the system of centers to support inclusive education development for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, to submit to the Prime Minister in the fourth quarter of 2023.
c) Implement the Resolution of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on monitoring the implementation of Resolution No. 88/2014/QH13 and Resolution No. 51/2017/QH14 of the National Assembly on the renewal of general education curriculum and textbooks; prepare to organize the evaluation of textbooks for grades 5, 9, and 12 in accordance with regulations; and soon study and announce the Plan for the high school graduation exam from 2025 to ensure conciseness, efficiency, practicality, reduce pressure, reduce costs, and create social consensus.
According to the Government's request, the Ministry of Education and Training must soon research and announce the plan for the high school graduation exam from 2025. The plan must ensure conciseness, efficiency, and especially reduce the pressure and cost of the high school graduation exam.
