Does a university teaching assistant require a master's degree in Vietnam? What level of training is required to become a university lecturer in Vietnam?
Hello, I am planning to apply to be a teaching assistant for a lecturer at a public university. There are many people applying like me. I see that there are people with a master's degree, so do I need a master's degree to be a teaching assistant? Please answer.

Pursuant to Article 4 of Circular 40/2020/TT-BGDDT regulations on Teaching Assistants (rank III) - Code: V.07.01.23
1. Mission:
a) Support lecturers (rank III), main lecturers (rank II), senior lecturers (rank I) in teaching activities, including: Preparing lectures, tutoring, guiding exercises, discussion, experiments, practice and grading;
b) Study and foster to improve the level of political theory, expertise, profession and teaching methods; Participate in practical activities to improve the quality of training and scientific research;
c) Participate in management, Party and union work and perform other tasks according to regulations on organization and operation of public higher education institutions and other relevant laws.
2. Standards for training and fostering qualifications:
Have a university degree or higher appropriate to the job position, industry or teaching major.
3. Standards for professional capacity and expertise:
a) Master the basic knowledge of the assigned subjects to guide practice, experiments, internships and have general knowledge of a number of related subjects in the training major;
b) Understand and properly implement the objectives, plans, contents, and programs of assigned subjects in the training major. Identify practices and trends in training and research development of the major at home and abroad;
c) Use teaching aids and teaching equipment effectively and safely;
d) Ability to apply information technology and use foreign languages in performing the duties of the teaching assistant position (rank III).
Thus, you do not need a master's degree to apply to work as a teaching assistant at a university, you only need a university degree appropriate to the job position, industry or teaching major. If you have a master's degree, it will be an advantage when applying for a teaching assistant position in Vietnam.

What level of training is required to become a university lecturer in Vietnam?
According to Article 5 of Circular 40/2020/TT-BGDDT amended by Clause 1, Article 2 of Circular 04/2022/TT-BGDDT regulating Lecturers (rank III) - Code: V.07.01.03
1. Mission:
a) Teaching, guiding and marking graduation projects and theses; Participate in teaching master's and doctoral level training programs and guide and evaluate master's theses and doctoral dissertations if they meet the prescribed standards;
b) Participate in building and developing training programs;
c) Preside or participate in compiling textbooks, reference books, monographs, manuals, translating books and textbooks in foreign languages into Vietnamese (hereinafter referred to as training books);
d) Organize and participate in scientific research activities; Write and participate in scientific reports at scientific conferences and seminars; Participate in evaluating grassroots scientific research projects and student scientific research projects: participate in international cooperation activities and ensure the quality of higher education;
d) Participate in the work of class president and academic advisor; guide discussion, practice, experiments and internships;
e) Study and foster to improve the level of political theory, expertise, profession and teaching methods; Participate in practical activities to improve the quality of training and scientific research;
g) Participate in management, Party and union work and perform other tasks according to regulations on organization and operation of public higher education institutions and other relevant laws.
2. Standards for training and fostering qualifications:
a) Have a master's degree or higher appropriate to the job position, industry or teaching major;
b) Have certificates of advanced training according to the professional title of a university lecturer.
3. Standards for professional capacity and expertise:
a) Master the basic knowledge of the subject assigned to teach; have general knowledge of a number of related subjects in the assigned training major;
b) Understand and properly implement the objectives, plans, contents, and programs of assigned subjects in the training major. Identify practices and trends in training and research development of the major at home and abroad;
c) Use teaching aids and teaching equipment effectively and safely, and have effective teaching methods appropriate to subject content; teaching meets the requirements or better;
d) Capable of scientific research; Apply scientific and technical advances and technology to teaching and assigned tasks;
d) Ability to apply information technology and use foreign languages in performing the duties of the lecturer position (rank III).
According to this Article, to work as a lecturer at a public university, one must have a master's degree or higher appropriate to the job position, industry or teaching specialty in Vietnam.
