Notification of enrollment for the 6th Lawyer Vocational Training Course, Session 2 in 2024 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City
The Judicial Academy announces the enrollment for the 6th Lawyer Vocational Training Course, Session 2, 2024, in Hanoi City and Ho Chi Minh City (High-Quality Lawyer Vocational Training Program).
The training duration is 12 months, including 36 credits, with classes on Saturdays and Sundays.
Application dossier in accordance with the Judicial Academy's template, and each candidate must submit 02 sets of documents (paper) including:
- Confirmation of work duration in law practice organizations (if any)
- 02 Curriculum vitae certified by the Ward People's Committee or district/provincial offices (original copy)
- 02 Enrollment application forms with attached photos, stating the candidate's email address/phone number (original copy)
- 02 Certified copies of the Bachelor of Law degree or higher
For degrees obtained abroad, a certificate from the Department of Quality Management of the Ministry of Education and Training or a document determining exemption from equivalent recognition is required.
- 04 Photos 4x6 (with full name, date of birth written on the back)

Will the Lawyer Practice Certificate be granted to the trainees after completing the lawyer vocational training course in Vietnam?
Based on Article 12 of the Lawyer Law 2006 (amended by Clause 4, Article 1 of the Amended Lawyer Law 2012) regarding lawyer vocational training:
Lawyer Vocational Training
Individuals with a Bachelor of Law degree can participate in lawyer vocational training courses at lawyer vocational training institutions.
The lawyer vocational training duration is twelve months.
Individuals who complete the lawyer vocational training program will be granted a lawyer vocational training graduation certificate by the lawyer vocational training institution.
The Government of Vietnam stipulates regulations on lawyer vocational training institutions.
The Minister of Justice sets the lawyer vocational training framework program, including the recognition of foreign lawyer vocational training.
In addition, according to Clause 1, Article 17 of the Lawyer Law 2006 (amended by Clause 8, Article 1 of the Amended Lawyer Law 2012) regarding the issuance of Lawyer Practice Certificates:
Issuance of Lawyer Practice Certificates
1. Individuals who meet the results of the lawyer practice internship examination and have an application dossier for granting a Lawyer Practice Certificate shall submit it to the Bar Association Executive Board.
The dossier includes:
a) Application for granting a Lawyer Practice Certificate according to the form prescribed by the Ministry of Justice;
b) Judicial background check certificate;
c) Health certificate;
d) Certified copy of the Bachelor of Law degree or Master's degree in Law;
dd) Certified copy of the lawyer practice internship examination results certificate.
Within seven working days from the receipt of a complete and valid dossier, the Bar Association Executive Board shall forward the dossier to the Department of Justice along with a confirmation that the applicant for the Lawyer Practice Certificate meets the lawyer standards as prescribed by this Law.

Thus, after completing the lawyer vocational training course, the trainee will not immediately be granted a Lawyer Practice Certificate but will be provided a Lawyer Vocational Training Graduation Certificate.
To be granted the Lawyer Practice Certificate, the trainee must then participate in a lawyer practice internship at a law practice organization. After completing the internship and passing the lawyer practice internship examination, they can submit an application for issuing the Lawyer Practice Certificate.
Who is exempt from the lawyer practice internship in Vietnam?
In accordance with Article 16 of the Lawyer Law 2006 (amended by Clause 7, Article 1 of the Amended Lawyer Law 2012) regarding exemptions and reductions in lawyer practice internship duration:
Persons Exempted from Lawyer Practice Internship
1. Those who are judges, senior prosecutors, intermediate prosecutors, senior investigators, intermediate investigators, professors, associate professors of law, doctors of law, senior court examiners, senior procurators, senior specialists, senior researchers, senior lecturers in the field of law are exempted from the lawyer practice internship.
Those who are junior investigators, principal court examiners, principal procurators, principal specialists, principal researchers, principal lecturers in the field of law are entitled to a two-thirds reduction in the lawyer practice internship duration.
Those who have over ten years of experience working in the grades of specialists, researchers, lecturers in the field of law, court examiners, or procurators are entitled to a half reduction in the lawyer practice internship duration.
Therefore, those exempt from the lawyer practice internship include:
- Judges;
- Senior prosecutors, intermediate prosecutors, senior investigators, intermediate investigators;
- Professors, associate professors of law, doctors of law;
- Senior court examiners, senior procurators, senior specialists, senior researchers, senior lecturers in the field of law
