The Vietnam Military History Museum officially opened on November 1, 2024, located at No. 28A Dien Bien Phu Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi City.
The Vietnam Military History Museum is one of six national-level museums and is the leading museum in the military museum system, established on July 17, 1956.
The Vietnam Military History Museum exhibits more than 150,000 artifacts, including four national treasures: MiG-21 aircraft numbered 4324, MiG-21 aircraft numbered 5121, the Determination Map of the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, T-54B tank numbered 843, and many other valuable artifacts.
The Vietnam Military History Museum is a specially significant cultural work, with exhibit components for visitors to interact with and gain a deeper understanding of the struggle for national independence by the Vietnamese people; thereby contributing to the preservation and promotion of the cultural and military heritage of the nation, meeting the needs for research, education, visits, and cultural enjoyment of people at home and abroad; aligning with the policy of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense: “The Vietnam Military History Museum is a multifunctional, comprehensive, particularly important, and exemplary institution of the Capital Hanoi and the nation.”

What are principles for management and protection of national defense structures and military zones in Vietnam?
Based on Article 3 of the Law on the Management and Protection of defense structures and Military Zones 2023, the principles for management and protection of national defense structures and military zones in Vietnam are stipulated as follows:
- Comply with the Constitution and law; align with international treaties to which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a member and related international agreements; safeguard the interests of the State, and the legal rights and interests of organizations and individuals.
- The management and protection of defense structures and military zones are a crucial, regular task and the responsibility of all citizens and the entire political system, with the People's Army as the core.
- Combine the management and protection of defense structures and military zones with socio-economic development, linking socio-economic development with the management and protection of defense structures and military zones.
- The management and protection of defense structures and military zones must be consistent with approved planning and plans; ensure confidentiality, safety, proper purpose, and functional use, suitable for each type and group of defense structures and military zones.
Under what circumstances shall defense structures and military zones in Vietnam be repurposed?
According to Article 12 of the Law on the Management and Protection of defense structures and Military Zones 2023, the repurposing of defense structures and military zones is regulated as follows:
Article 12. Repurposing of defense structures and Military Zones
- The repurposing of defense structures and military zones must not affect military and defense missions and must ensure state secrecy; it must be in line with the planning of the defense structures system and military zones approved by competent authorities.
- Cases where defense structures and military zones can be repurposed include:
a) Repurposing defense structures and military zones managed by the Ministry of National Defense as per military and defense mission requirements;
b) No longer required for military and defense missions and needing repurposing for socio-economic development and public demand;

According to the above provisions, defense structures and military zones can be repurposed in the following cases:
- Repurposing of defense structures and military zones managed by the Ministry of National Defense according to military and defense mission requirements
- No longer required for military and defense missions, needing repurposing for socio-economic development and public demand
- Still required for military and defense missions but fall within the scope of economic-social development projects according to planning approved by competent authorities and with written agreement from the Ministry of National Defense regarding the repurposing of defense structures and military zones during the investment project approval process.
