When did the Viet Bac Autumn-Winter Campaign in 1947 in Vietnam take place?
During the resistance war against the French colonial invasion (1945 - 1954), the victory of the Viet Bac Autumn-Winter 1947 Campaign was one of the strategic historical events that positively impacted the progress of the resistance war of the Vietnamese people. For the French colonists, it was a severe defeat both militarily and politically, leading to the irretrievable collapse of their "quick fight, quick victory" strategy.
The campaign lasted 75 days and nights (from October 7 to December 19, 1947), culminating in a victorious outcome. Our army and people eliminated over 7,200 enemy troops from the battlefield, shot down and damaged 18 aircraft, sank 16 warships and 38 canoes, and destroyed 255 vehicles of various types. We captured two 105 mm cannons, seven 75 mm cannons, 16 20 mm guns, 337 machine guns of various calibers, 45 bazookas, 1,660 rifles, along with dozens of tons of military supplies and equipment.
Thus, the Viet Bac Autumn-Winter 1947 Campaign took place from October 7 to December 20, 1947.
The victory of the Viet Bac Autumn-Winter 1947 Campaign is a powerful testament to the sharp leadership and strategic prowess of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President Ho Chi Minh. Through the campaign, the People's Army of Vietnam made progress in tactical forms and methods of force organization, accumulating experience in "guerrilla warfare" and "mobile warfare," particularly the combat principle of "independent companies, concentrated battalions."
Notably, the Viet Bac Autumn-Winter 1947 Campaign was also the first counterattack campaign of the People's Army of Vietnam that successfully applied the campaign art "Attack within Counterattack in Mountainous Areas," contributing to advancing the nation's resistance war into a new phase.
