How to fly the flag at half-mast during the state funeral in Vietnam?
According to Article 10 of Decree 105/2012/ND-CP stipulating funeral procedures:
Duration and Ceremony of Funeral
The duration of the State Funeral is 02 (two) days. During this time, offices and public institutions nationwide as well as Vietnamese representative offices abroad shall display flags at half-staff with mourning bands (the band shall be 1/10 of the width of the flag, the length shall be equal to the length of the flag and the flag shall only be hoisted to 2/3 of the height of the flagpole, using black fabric bands to prevent the flag from flying), and public recreational and entertainment activities shall not be organized.
According to the above provision, the duration of the State Funeral is 02 days. During this time, offices and public institutions nationwide as well as Vietnamese representative offices abroad shall display flags at half-staff.
The procedure for displaying flags at half-staff during the State Funeral is as follows:
- The band shall be 1/10 of the width of the flag
- The length shall be equal to the length of the flag
- The flag shall only be hoisted to 2/3 of the height of the flagpole, using black fabric bands to prevent the flag from flying

Pursuant to Article 112 of the Labor Code 2019 on holidays:
Holidays
- Employees shall be entitled to fully paid leave on the following public holidays:
a) New Year's Day: 01 day (January 01 of the Gregorian calendar);
b) Lunar New Year: 05 days;
c) Victory Day: 01 day (April 30 of the Gregorian calendar);
d) International Labor Day: 01 day (May 01 of the Gregorian calendar);
đ) National Day: 02 days (September 02 of the Gregorian calendar and 01 day immediately before or after);
e) Anniversary of the Hung Kings: 01 day (March 10 of the lunar calendar).
Foreign employees working in Vietnam, besides the holidays stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article, shall also be entitled to 01 traditional new year holiday and 01 national day of their country.
Annually, based on actual conditions, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam shall specifically decide on the days off prescribed at Points b and đ, Clause 1 of this Article.
A State Funeral is an important political and cultural event that usually occurs after the death of a head of state or an important figure.
It is an occasion to remember and honor the life and achievements of the deceased, while also expressing the respect and affection of the people for the deceased. Currently, there is no regulation on work leave during the State Funeral.
Is the state funeral broadcasted live on television in Vietnam?

- Brief News
Before the official announcement by the Funeral Organizing Committee, mass media are only permitted to report briefly on the passing. After the formation of the Funeral Organizing Committee and the official announcement of the funeral arrangements, mass media may report in detail, publish articles introducing the deceased.
- Reporting on Various Information Channels
a) The People's Newspaper and press agencies at the central and local levels shall report on the State Funeral, including: announcements, lists of the State Funeral Committee and the Funeral Organizing Committee; biography and photos of the deceased; national mourning procedures; notices on the Memorial Service, the Funeral Ceremony, the Burial Ceremony, and thank you notes from the State Funeral Committee;
b) The Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio shall document the Memorial Service, the Funeral Ceremony, and the Burial Ceremony. The Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television, and Vietnam News Agency shall broadcast and live stream the Memorial Service, the Funeral Ceremony, and the Burial Ceremony.
The Memorial Service, Funeral Ceremony, and Burial Ceremony during the State Funeral will be broadcast and live-streamed on the Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television, and Vietnam News Agency.
