Teaching periods

Teaching periods are the number of theoretical or practical periods each teacher must teach in a week. Specifically:

1. The teaching periods for primary school teachers are 23 periods, for secondary school teachers are 19 periods, and for high school teachers are 17 periods;

2. The teaching periods for teachers at ethnic boarding schools are 17 periods at the secondary school level and 15 periods at the high school level;

The teaching periods for teachers at semi-boarding ethnic schools are 21 periods at the primary school level and 17 periods at the secondary school level;

The teaching periods for teachers at schools and classes for disabled or handicapped students are 21 periods at the primary school level and 17 periods at the secondary school level.

2a. The teaching periods for teachers at pre-university schools are 12 periods.

3. Teachers who hold the position of Head of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization at a grade I school teach 2 periods a week, at a grade II school teach 1/3 of the standard teaching periods, and at a grade III school teach 1/2 of the standard teaching periods for teachers of the same education level. The classification of general education schools is in accordance with current regulations.

Reduction in teaching periods for teachers with additional professional duties

1. Homeroom teachers at the primary school level are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods/week, at the secondary school and high school levels are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods/week.

2. Homeroom teachers at ethnic boarding schools at the secondary and high school levels are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods/week. Homeroom teachers at specialized and semi-boarding schools are entitled to a reduction of 4 periods/week. Homeroom teachers at schools and classes for disabled or handicapped students are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods/week.

2a. Homeroom teachers at pre-university schools are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods/week.

3. Teachers who are in charge of subject rooms are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods/subject/week.

4. Teachers who are in charge of school-wide cultural and physical education activities, school gardens, workshops, equipment rooms, libraries (if these positions do not have designated staff) are entitled to a reduction of 2 - 3 periods/week depending on the workload as decided by the principal.

5. Subject group leaders are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods/week.

5a. Deputy subject group leaders are entitled to a reduction of 1 period/week.

5b. Teachers who are heads of functional departments at pre-university schools are entitled to a reduction of 3 periods/week;
