Under subsection 2, Section 5 of the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the 7th-grade Literature curriculum includes the following literature knowledge:
- Cognitive value of literature
- Subject and theme of the text; the relationship between details and the theme, how to identify the theme of the text; the attitude and emotions of the author expressed through the text
- Text summary
- Proverb forms
- Subject, events, situations, plot, space, time, characters of fables and science fiction stories
- First-person narrator and third-person narrator; the effect of each type of narrator in a story
- Some formal elements of four and five-character poems: number of lines, words, rhymes, rhythm
- Lyrical quality, the self, and the language of essays and reviews
- Life experiences and understanding of literature.

According to Section 3, Appendix of the General Education Program for the Literature Subject issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the objectives of Literature at the lower secondary level are as follows:
- Objective 1: Help students continue to develop the good qualities that have been formed in elementary school; enhance and expand the development requirements related to characteristics with specific expressions such as: being proud of national and literary history; having dreams and aspirations, self-study and self-respect spirit, civic awareness, and respect for the law.
- Objective 2: Continue to develop common capacities, language ability, literary ability formed in elementary school with higher achievement requirements. Develop language ability with the following requirements: distinguish different types of literary texts, argumentative texts, and informational texts; understand both explicit and implicit content of these texts; write coherent and logical narrative, descriptive, expressive, argumentative, explanatory, and practical essays, combined with various expression methods; speak clearly, coherently; have a confident attitude appropriate to communication context; understand listening with an appropriate attitude.
Develop literary ability with requirements: distinguish various genres of stories, poems, essays, literary scripts, and some specific subgenres; recognize the characteristics of literary language, identify and analyze the effects of formal elements and artistic measures associated with each literary genre; recognize expressive value, cognitive value, aesthetical value; analyze the symbolism, content, and form of literary works; be able to create some literature-related products.
Thus, helping students have a confident attitude appropriate to communication context is one of the objectives of 7th-grade Literature in Vietnam.
