What are regulations on consideration for the completion of the curriculum for primary school students in Vietnam? How to handle students who have not been confirmed to complete the curriculum?

Based on Article 11 of the Regulations issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the consideration for the completion of the curriculum for primary school students and the resolution for students who have not been confirmed to complete the curriculum is as follows:

- Students are confirmed to have completed the curriculum when they are assessed in one of the three levels: Excellent Completion, Good Completion, Completion.

- For students who have not been confirmed to complete the curriculum, teachers will plan, guide, and assist; conduct additional assessments to consider the completion of the curriculum.

- For students who have been guided and assisted but still do not meet the conditions to complete the curriculum, depending on the level of incompletion in subjects, educational activities, and the formation and development of certain qualities and competencies, teachers will make a list and report it to the principal to organize assessments and considerations, and decide on whether to promote or not.

What subjects are included in the primary school education program in Vietnam?

Based on the overall program of the general education curriculum issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, amended by Articles 1 and 2 of Circular 13/2022/TT-BGDDT, the system of subjects and educational activities of the general education program includes compulsory subjects and educational activities, elective subjects oriented towards career (referred to as elective subjects) and optional subjects.

The actual learning time in a school year is equivalent to 35 weeks. Educational institutions can organize learning sessions 1 session/day or 2 sessions/day. Schools organizing 1 session/day and 2 sessions/day must implement the common mandatory educational content uniformly across all educational institutions nationwide.

For primary school students, the subjects include:

Compulsory subjects and educational activities: Vietnamese; Math; Ethics; Foreign Language 1 (in grades 3, 4, 5); Nature and Society (in grades 1, 2, 3); History and Geography (in grades 4, 5); Science (in grades 4, 5); Informatics and Technology (in grades 3, 4, 5); Physical Education; Art (Music, Art); Experiential Activities.

Optional subjects: Ethnic Minority Language, Foreign Language 1 (in grades 1, 2).

How to aggregate the educational assessment results of primary school students in Vietnam?

Based on Article 9 of the Regulations on Primary School Student Assessment issued with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the aggregation of the educational assessment results of primary school students is as follows:

(1) Mid-semester 1, end of semester 1, mid-semester 2, and end of the school year:

- Subject teachers, based on continuous assessments and periodic assessments on subjects and educational activities, aggregate and record each student's educational assessment results into the Class Educational Assessment Summary Table.

- Homeroom teachers, based on continuous assessments and periodic assessments on core qualities and competencies of each student, aggregate and record the educational assessment results into the Class Educational Assessment Summary Table.

(2) At the end of the school year, based on the synthesis process of assessment results in each subject, educational activities, core qualities, and competencies, the homeroom teacher will:

- Evaluate students' educational results into four levels:

+ Excellent Completion: Students achieving Good in all subjects and educational activities; achieving Good in qualities and competencies; scoring 9 or above in end-of-year subject tests.

+ Good Completion: Students not achieving Excellent Completion but having all subjects and educational activities at Good levels; achieving Good in qualities and competencies; scoring 7 or above in end-of-year subject tests.

+ Completion: Students not achieving Excellent or Good Completion but having subjects and educational activities at Good or Completion levels; achieving Good or Satisfactory in qualities and competencies; scoring 5 or above in end-of-year subject tests.

+ Not Completed: Students not belonging to the above categories.

- Record comments, summary assessment results, and students' achievements for award consideration into the Student Record.
