According to Clause 1, Article 21 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, which provides for the evaluation of lower and upper secondary school students (including the assessment of training results of students), the implementation timeline is defined as follows:

- From the school year 2021-2022 for Grade 6.

- From the school year 2022-2023 for Grades 7 and 10.

- From the school year 2023-2024 for Grades 8 and 11.

- From the school year 2024-2025 for Grades 9 and 12.

Thus, from the school year 2024-2025, the evaluation of the training results of 12th-grade students will be training resultsed according to Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT instead of Circular 58/2011/TT-BGDDT as applied in the school year 2023-2024.

What are the criteria for assessing the training results of 12th-grade students in the school year 2024-2025 in Vietnam?

Based on Clause 1, Article 8 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, the evaluation of the training results of 12th-grade students in the school year 2024-2025 will be based on the required achievements in terms of fundamental qualities and general competencies at levels appropriate to the subject, education level as stipulated in the overall program, and the required achievements in specific competencies as stipulated in the subject programs within the general education curriculum.

Teachers of various subjects will base their assessments on these criteria to comment on, evaluate the training results, progress, outstanding strengths, and main limitations of the students during their learning and training process for that subject.

At the same time, homeroom teachers will also base their observations on these criteria to monitor the students' learning and training process; consider comments and evaluations from subject teachers, feedback from students' parents, and related agencies, organizations, and individuals during the education process; guide students to self-assess; and from there, comment, evaluate the training results of students according to the levels specified in Section 3.

What are methods of assessment of 12th Grade Students' training results for the 2024-2025 school year in Vietnam?

According to Clause 2, Article 8 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, the training results each semester and throughout the school year for 12th-grade students will be graded as one of four levels: Excellent, Good, Average, and Unsatisfactory. The levels of assessment must meet the following criteria:

- Training results for each semester

+ Excellent Level: Meets the required achievements in qualities as stipulated in the general education curriculum and shows many outstanding features.

+ Good Level: Meets the required achievements in qualities as stipulated in the general education curriculum and shows some outstanding features but not at the Excellent level.

+ Average Level: Meets the required achievements in qualities as stipulated in the general education curriculum.

+ Unsatisfactory Level: Does not meet the required achievements in qualities as stipulated in the general education curriculum.

- Training results for the whole school year

+ Excellent Level: Rated Excellent in semester 2, and at least Good in semester 1.

+ Good Level: Rated Good in semester 2, and at least Average in semester 1; or rated Average in semester 2, and Excellent in semester 1; or rated Excellent in semester 2, and Average or Unsatisfactory in semester 1.

+ Average Level: Rated Average in semester 2, and at least Good, Average, or Unsatisfactory in semester 1; or rated Good in semester 2, and Unsatisfactory in semester 1.

+ Unsatisfactory Level: All other cases.

What rights will 12th-grade students in Vietnam have?

Specifically, according to Article 35 of the regulations on secondary schools, high schools, and multiple-level schools issued with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, 12th-grade students will have the following rights:

- Equal access to comprehensive education, ensured conditions for time, facilities, hygiene, safety for studying in class and self-study at home, provided information about their studies and training, the use of facilities and equipment for school activities, culture, and sports according to regulations.

- Respect and protection, equal and democratic treatment, the right to appeal to the school and education management levels regarding decisions affecting themselves; the right to transfer schools with valid reasons under current regulations; the right to advance in grade, skip a grade, or study at an age older than the stipulated age according to Article 33 of the secondary, high school, and multiple-level school regulations (issued with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT).

- Participation in activities aimed at developing talents in subjects, sports, and arts organized by the school if they meet the conditions.

- Receive scholarships or other assistance according to regulations for socially entitled students, students facing difficult living conditions, and exceptionally talented students.

- Transfer schools if they meet the conditions as per regulations; the transfer procedures follow the regulations of the Minister of Education and Training.

- Enjoy other rights as stated by law.
