What is the core content for grade 7 Literature in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Appendix I of the General Education Program Literature subject issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the characteristics of the subject across all educational levels, and specifically for grade 7, are as follows:
- Literature is a subject in the field of Language and Literature Education, taught from grade 1 to grade 12. In primary school, this subject is called Vietnamese; in both lower and upper secondary education, it is called Literature.
- Literature is both a utilitarian and aesthetic-humanistic subject; it provides students with a communication tool, forming a foundation for learning all subjects and educational activities in school, and also serves as an important tool for educating students about lofty values of culture, literature, and national language; fostering healthy emotions, humanistic feelings, compassion...
- Through verbal texts and lively artistic images in literary works, by reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities, the Literature subject has a significant role in helping students form and develop great traits and core capabilities for effective living and working, and life-long learning.
- The content of Literature is comprehensive, including cultural, ethical, philosophical knowledge, etc., relating to many other subjects and educational activities such as History, Geography, Art, Civic Education, Foreign Languages, Natural and Social Sciences, Experiential Activities and Career Orientation... The Literature subject is also closely connected with life; helping students connect more with daily life, enabling them to relate to and solve emerging issues in practice.
- The core content of the subject includes essential and basic knowledge and skills about Vietnamese and literature, meeting the attainment requirements of students' qualities and capabilities at each level; divided into two phases: the basic education phase and the career-oriented education phase.
- Basic Education Phase: The program is designed according to main threads corresponding to reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Vietnamese and literature knowledge is integrated throughout the teaching process of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The texts are selected and arranged to suit the students' reception ability at each educational level.
The goal of this phase is to help students use Vietnamese proficiently for effective communication in life and to learn all subjects, other educational activities; form and develop literary skills, an expression of aesthetic capacity; while nurturing thoughts and emotions for students' soul and character development.
- Career-oriented Education Phase: The program consolidates and develops the results of the basic education phase, helping students improve language and literary competence, especially in literature text reception; enhance argumentative writing skills, provide informative texts with more complex content and writing techniques; equip some practical literary history and literary theory knowledge for reading and writing about literature; continue to nurture thoughts, emotions, soul, and character for students to become responsible citizens. Additionally, each year, students with a social sciences and humanities orientation choose to study specific topics.
These topics aim to enhance knowledge about literature and language, apply knowledge in real life, meet students' interests, needs, and career orientations.
Therefore, the core content for the Literature subject for grade 7 includes the basic and essential knowledge and skills about Vietnamese and literature, meeting the required qualities and capabilities of students at each level, divided into two phases: the basic education phase and the career-oriented education phase.
Do the objectives of grade 7 Literature make students in Vietnam proud of national history?
Pursuant to Appendix III of the General Education Program Literature subject issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT on the objectives of educational levels, including the objectives for lower secondary education for the subject of literature:
- Objective 1: Help students continue to develop the good qualities formed in primary school; elevate and expand the requirements for quality development with specific expressions such as: pride in national history and literature; possessing aspirations and dreams, having a spirit of self-study and self-esteem, having a sense of citizenship, and respecting the law.
- Objective 2: Continue to develop the general competencies, linguistic competencies, and literary competencies formed at the primary level with higher attaining requirements. Develop linguistic competencies with requirements:
Differentiate types of literary texts, argumentative texts, and informational texts; comprehend both explicit and implicit content of different texts; write narrative, descriptive, expressive, argumentative, expository, and functional texts completely, coherently, logically, correctly, and with the combination of various expression methods; speak clearly, coherently; with self-confidence appropriate to the communicative context; listen with appropriate attitudes.
Develop literary competence with requirements: distinguish literary genres such as stories, poetry, memoirs, scripts, and some specific genres; recognize the characteristics of literary language, identify, and analyze the effects of form elements and artistic devices associated with each literary genre; recognize the expressive, cognitive, and aesthetic values; analyze the imagery, content, and form of literary works; create some types of literary products.
Considering the above provisions, helping students take pride in national history and national literature is Objective 1 in the general education program for the Literature subject in general and grade 7 Literature in particular.
