According to Clause 1, Article 40 of the high school graduation exam regulations issued under Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, as amended by Clause 14, Article 1 and annulled by Article 2 of Circular 05/2021/TT-BGDDT, provisions on incentive points are stipulated as follows:

Extra points

1. Students participating in contests and other activities shall receive the amount of extra points as follows:

a) Get individual prizes in the contest of sciences for excellent 12th-graders: Win first, second, third prize in the national contest or first prize in provincial contests: +2.0 points; get consolation prize in the national contests or second prize in provincial contests: +1.5 points; Get third prize in provincial contests: +1.0 points;

b) Get individual or team prizes in practical contests of Physics, Chemistry, Biology; arts, sports contests, exhibitions of national defense education, science and engineering contests, international letter-writing competitions held by education authorities in cooperation with other authorities from provincial level and above for high school students. Individual prizes: first, second or third prize in national contests, first prize in provincial contests or gold medal is granted 2,0 extra points; consolation prize in national contests, fourth prize in national science and engineering contests, second prize in provincial contests or silver medal is granted 1,5 extra points; third prize in provincial contests or bronze medal is granted 1,0 extra point. Team prizes: extra points shall only be prizeed to candidates with team prizes at national level; the number of players, athletes and actors of teams shall comply with the rules provided by the organizer of each contest; persons winning team prizes shall be entitled to the same amount of extra points prizeed to those winning individual prizes as provided for in this Point. Candidates winning different prizes in different contests shall be eligible for the extra points granted to the highest prize.

The extra points for candidates achieving prizes in the exam for the selection of excellent students at the provincial level when high school graduation assessment are as follows:

[1] For the 12th-grade culture subject contests:

- Provincial first prize is eligible for 2 points

- Provincial second prize is eligible for 1.5 points

- Provincial third prize is eligible for 1 point

- Provincial encouragement prize: not eligible for points

[2] For individual prizes in practical exam contests in Physics, Chemistry, Biology; art contests; sports games; national defense education contests; science and technology contests; international letter writing organized by the Education sector in cooperation with professional sectors from the provincial level upwards in high schools:

- Provincial first prize or Gold Medal is eligible for 2 points

- Provincial second prize or Silver Medal is eligible for 1.5 points

- Provincial third prize or Bronze Medal is eligible for 1 point

- Encouragement prize is not eligible

Therefore, candidates achieving prizes in the exam for the selection of excellent students at the provincial level in Vietnam will not be eligible for extra points in the enrollment for undergraduate programs but only extra points for the high school graduation assessment in 2024.

According to Article 8 of the regulations on enrollment for undergraduate and college programs in Early Childhood Education issued under Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, candidates eligible for direct admission and prioritized admission are as follows:

Candidates achieving high accomplishments in national or international competitions, contests, and tournaments organized or decreed by the Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, are eligible for direct admission in the year of high school (or intermediate) graduation to the sectors that fit with the subjects, content, or skills of the contest in which the candidate competed and won prizes; specifically in the following cases:

a) Candidates winning first, second, third prizes in national, international outstanding student selection contests, or national, international science and technology contests organized or decreed by the Ministry of Education and Training; eligible direct admission within 3 years from the time of winning the prize;

What are the standards of Good students in Vietnam?

According to the regulations in Article 15 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT on the assessment of students at the end of the year:

Commendations

1. Principals shall award certificates of achievement for students

a) End-of-year commendation

- Award the title “Học sinh Xuất sắc” (Excellent student) for students who have obtained Excellent training and learning results for the entire school year and achieved DTBmcn of at least 9.0 in subjects that are assessed via both feedback and scores.

- Award the title “Học sinh Giỏi” (Good student) for students who have obtained Excellent training and learning results for the entire school year.

b) Commend students for having unexpected merits in training and learning in the school year.

2. Students with special achievements shall be considered and requested for commendation by schools.

2. Training results of students in each semester and in the entire school year

Training results of students in each semester and in the entire school year shall be assessed by one of 4 categories: Excellent, Good, Qualified, Unqualified.

a) Training results of students in each semester

- Excellent: Satisfy requirements for traits under formal education program excellently and display merits.

- Good: Satisfy requirements for traits under formal education program well and display merits but not enough to be placed in Excellent category.

- Qualified: Satisfy requirements for traits under formal education program.

- Unqualified: Fail to satisfy requirements for traits under formal education program.

b) Training results of students in the entire school year

- Excellent: a student is placed in Excellent category in the 2nd semester and in Good category or higher in the 1st semester.

- Good: a student is placed in Good category in the 2nd semester and Qualified category or higher in the 1st semester; or Qualified category in the 2nd semester and Good category in the 1st semester; or Good category in the 2nd semester and Qualified category or Unqualified category in the 1st semester.

- Qualified: a student is placed in Qualified category in the 2nd semester and Good, Qualified, or Unqualified category in the 1st category; or Good category in the 2nd semester and Unqualified in the 1st semester.

- Unqualified: other cases.

A student will have Excellent training results if he/she meets the requirements for traits under formal education program excellently and display merits.

- Excellent learning results

According to Clause 2, Article 9 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT, students will Excellent learning results when:

- All subjects assessed with feedback are placed in Qualified category.

- All subjects assessed by both feedback and scores have minimum scores of 6.5 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn with 6 subjects among which have minimum scores of 8.0 for DTBmhk and DTBmcn.
