- Literature is a subject within the field of Language and Literature Education, taught from Grade 1 to Grade 12. At the primary level, this subject is called Vietnamese; at the secondary and high school levels, it is called Literature.

- Literature is a tool-oriented and aesthetic-humanistic subject that helps students with communication skills, providing a foundation for learning all other subjects and educational activities in schools; additionally, it is a crucial tool for educating students on noble cultural, literary, and national language values; cultivating healthy emotions, humane feelings, compassionate living, altruism,...

- Through verbal texts and dynamic artistic images in literary works, via activities like reading, writing, speaking, and listening, Literature plays a significant role in helping students form and develop positive qualities and core competencies to live and work effectively, to learn throughout life.

- The content of Literature is integrative, encompassing knowledge of culture, ethics, philosophy,... related to multiple subjects and educational activities like History, Geography, Arts, Civic Education, Foreign Languages, Natural and Social Sciences, Experiential Activities, Career-oriented Activities,… Literature is also closely linked to life; it helps students be more attentive and engaged with daily life, know how to relate and have skills to solve real-world issues.

- The core content of the subject includes fundamental and essential knowledge and skills in Vietnamese language and literature, meeting the requirements needed for student qualities and competencies at each educational level; divided into two phases: basic education and career-oriented education phases.

- Basic Education Phase: The program is designed along main strands corresponding to the skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Knowledge of Vietnamese and literature is integrated throughout the teaching of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The texts chosen and arranged are suitable for the students' receptive capacity at each educational level.

The aim of this phase is to help students use Vietnamese fluently for effective communication in life and perform well in other subjects and educational activities; to form and develop literary competence, an expression of aesthetic capacity; while also nurturing thoughts and feelings for students to grow in spirit and character.

- Career-oriented Education Phase: The program reinforces and develops the outcomes of the basic education phase, assisting students in enhancing their linguistic and literary skills, particularly in accessing literary texts; strengthening the ability to create argumentative texts and more complex informational texts regarding content and writing techniques; equipping some knowledge of literary history and literary theory that are practically applicable to reading and writing about literature; continuing to nurture thoughts, feelings, soul, and character for students to become responsible citizens. Additionally, each year, students oriented toward social sciences and humanities may choose to study some topics.

These topics aim to reinforce knowledge of literature and language, apply knowledge to practice, meeting students' interests, needs, and career orientations.

Thus, the core content for 7th-grade Literature includes fundamental and essential knowledge and skills in Vietnamese and literature, satisfying the requirements for student qualities and competencies at each educational level; divided into two phases: basic education and career-oriented education.

Do the objectives of 7th-grade Literature help students in Vietnam be proud of the national history?

Under Section 3 of the Appendix of the General Education Program for Literature accompanied by Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT regarding the objectives of educational levels, the objectives for the lower secondary level in Literature are as follows:

- Objective 1: Help students continue to develop the good qualities formed in elementary school; elevate and expand requirements for quality development with specific expressions such as: knowing how to be proud of the national history and literature; having dreams and aspirations, a spirit of self-learning and self-respect, a sense of citizenship, and respect for the law.

- Objective 2: Continue developing general competencies, linguistic competence, and literary competence formed at the primary level with higher requirements. Develop linguistic competence with requirements:

Distinguish between types of literary texts, argumentative texts, and informational texts; comprehend both explicit and implicit content of these texts; write coherent and logical narrative, descriptive, expressive, argumentative, explanatory, practical segments, and essays, integrating expression methods; speak clearly, coherently; have a confident attitude suitable to communication contexts; listen with an appropriate attitude.

Develop literary competence with requirements: distinguish between genres of stories, poetry, memoirs, literary scripts, and some specific sub-genres; recognize the characteristics of literary language, identify and analyze the effects of formal elements and artistic devices associated with each literary genre; recognize expressive, cognitive, and aesthetic values; analyze the figural nature, content, and form of literary works; create literary products.

Under this regulation, helping students be proud of the national history and literature is Objective 1 in the educational program for Literature in general as well as 7th-grade Literature specifically.
