Pursuant to Point a, Clause 2, Article 8 of the Undergraduate Admission Regulations and the Preschool Education College Admission Regulations issued together with Circular 08/2022/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated as follows:
Subjects for Direct Admission and Priority Consideration
- Labor Heroes, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, and National Emulative Soldiers are entitled to direct admission into the programs and fields of study determined by the training institutions.
2. Candidates with outstanding achievements in national or international exams, competitions, or tournaments organized or authorized by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to participate, are eligible for direct admission in the year they graduate from high school (or intermediate level) into suitable fields corresponding to the competition subjects, research projects, or occupational fields in which they obtained awards; specifically in the following cases:
a) Students awarded first, second, or third prize in the national or interexam for the selection of excellent students at the national level or national and international science and technology exams organized by the MoET; the time of the awarded prize must not exceed 3 years from the point of direct admission consideration;
b) Students who receive an official prize in international art competitions in singing, dancing, music, and fine arts recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; the time of the awarded prize must not exceed 4 years from the point of direct admission consideration;
c) Students who participate in the national team in official international competitions confirmed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to have completed their duties, including: World Championships, World Cups, Olympic Games, Asian Games (ASIAD), Asian Championships, Asian Cups, Southeast Asian Championships, Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), Southeast Asian Cups; the time of the awarded prize must not exceed 4 years from the point of direct admission consideration;
d) Students awarded first, second, or third prize in ASEAN regional skills competitions and international skills competitions nominated by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs; the time of the awarded prize must not exceed 3 years from the point of direct admission consideration.

Who is eligible to participate in the exam for the selection of excellent students at the national level in Vietnam?
According to Article 4 of the National Excellent Student Examination Regulations issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, the subjects eligible for the exam for the selection of excellent students at the national level are as follows:
- For the exam for the selection of excellent students at the national level:
+ Students currently studying in high school, obtaining a conduct assessment of "good" or higher and academic results of "fair" or higher according to the results of the semester (or academic year) immediately preceding the exam and selected into the competition unit's team;
+ Each student is only allowed to participate in one subject exam in one academic year.
- For the selection exam for the Olympic team:
High school students who fall into one of the following categories:
+ Selected by the MoET from students awarded prizes in the exam for the selection of excellent students at the national level in the same academic year based on descending order of exam scores, ensuring the number of selected students for each subject does not exceed eight (08) times the number of students needed for the national team to participate in the international Olympic competition in that subject;
+ Not participating in the exam for the selection of excellent students at the national level in the same academic year but have been members of the national team in regional Olympic competitions or the national team in international Olympic competitions in the preceding academic year.

According to Article 5 of the National Excellent Student Examination Regulations issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT, the subjects, exam content, exam format, and exam time for the exam for the selection of excellent students at the national level are as follows:
- Subjects:
+ For the exam for the selection of excellent students at the national level, the following subjects are organized: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Literature, History, Geography, and Foreign Languages (English, Russian, French, Chinese). The exam will only be organized for subjects with at least 05 participating units registered. Adjustments to subjects (if any) will be considered and decided by the Minister of MoET;
+ For the selection exam for the Olympic team, the following subjects are organized: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics.
- Exam content: Depends on the High School Education Program and the subject-specific curriculum at the high school level; for the selection exam for the Olympic team, the content aligns with international and regional Olympics.
- Exam format and exam time:
+ exam for the selection of excellent students at the national level: Two sessions for Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, and Foreign Languages; one session for Literature, History, Geography; exam duration is 180 minutes. Informatics is tested through computer programming; other subjects are paper-based; Foreign Languages include a speaking test with 05 minutes preparation and 05 minutes for recording;
+ Selection exam for the Olympic team: Two sessions per subject; Physics, Chemistry, and Biology include an additional practical test session; exam duration for Informatics is 300 minutes per exam, Math is 270 minutes per exam, and other subjects are 240 minutes per exam. The practical test duration for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is 180 minutes.
