Period for investigation of consumer prices in Vietnam during 2025-2030

The Minister of Planning and Investment has promulgated Decision 1708/QD-BKHDT on the Plan for the Consumer Price investigation for the period of 2025-2030 (hereinafter referred to as "the Plan"). The investigation will be conducted across 63 provinces and centrally-managed cities with representative goods and services consumed by households according to the List of goods and services representing the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the base year 2024; the goods and services in the List of goods and services according to the International Comparison Program (ICP). Specifically, the timeline is as follows:

Purpose, Requirements of the Consumer Price investigation in Vietnam for the period 2025-2030

(1) Purpose of the investigation

The consumer price investigation is conducted for the following purposes:

- Compile the Consumer Price Index (CPI) indicators within the National Statistics Indicator System. Ensure information on the consumer price index to serve the Communist Party, National Assembly, Government of Vietnam, ministries, sectors, and localities in their management, administration, and policy-making on wages, interest rates, financial and monetary management, and economic-social development planning, as well as calculating some aggregated statistical indicators in comparable prices;

- Meet information needs on consumer price fluctuations of the public, businesses, production and business establishments, and other users of information;

- Provide information on consumer prices as a basis for compiling the Spatial Cost of Living Index (SCOLI), serving the work of assessing poverty alleviation programs and calculating Human Development Index (HDI);

- Collect information on the price levels of representative goods and services according to the International Comparison Program (ICP) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to calculate purchasing power parity (PPP), thereby assessing poverty-wealth relations among countries in the region.

(2) Requirements of the investigation

The consumer price investigation must ensure the following requirements:

- The work of organizing, collecting information, processing data, summarizing, and storing investigation information must be conducted seriously in accordance with the conformable of the Plan;

- Ensure complete, accurate, prompt information collection, targeting the correct investigation units, and investigating the correct items as specified in the Plan;

- Confidentiality of information collected from investigation subjects as per the Statistics Law;

- Manage and use the investigation budget in compliance with current policies, employing thrift and efficiency;

- investigation results must meet the purpose requirements of the investigation, ensuring international comparability.
