In addition to being fined, cars make a u-turn to cause accidents or making a u-turn on highways in Vietnam may be deprived of driver's licenses for up to 4 months.
Specifically, Article 5 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP (amended in Decree 123/2021/ND-CP) stipulates the penalty for vehicle turnaround with cars in Vietnam as follows:
- A fine ranging from VND 400,000 to VND 600,000 shall be imposed upon a vehicle operator in Vietnam who commits any of the following violations:
+ Making a u-turn in a residential area against the rules;
+ Making a u-turn at pedestrian crossings, on bridges, bridge approaches, in tunnels, under overpass in Vietnam, except for cases in which places for u-turn are established in locations above.
- A fine ranging from VND 800,000 to VND 1,000,000 shall be imposed upon a vehicle operator who commits any of the following violations:
+ Making a u-turn at a level crossing; making a u-turn at narrow section of the road, on a slope, on a curve section of the road with limited sight or at location erected with the sign "No u-turn allowed";
- A fine of between VND 2,000,000 and VND 3,000,000 shall be imposed for the following acts:
+ Making a u-turn against the regulations causes traffic jams in Vietnam.
+ Making a u-turn in road tunnels
In addition, they are deprived of the right to use the Driver's License for 01 month to 03 months in Vietnam.
- A fine ranging from VND 10,000,000 to VND 12,000,000 shall be imposed upon a vehicle operator in Vietnam who commits any of the following violations:
+ Making a u-turn causing traffic accidents.
+ Making a u-turn on the highway in Vietnam.
In addition, he/she was deprived of the right to use the Driver's License for 02 months to 04 months in Vietnam.
