According to the provisions on the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that learners must achieve after graduating from mid-level and college-level midwifery programs, issued along with Circular 54/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, a mid-level midwifery qualification involves professions that perform healthcare tasks for women during pregnancy, ensuring safe childbirth; providing reproductive health counseling to women of all ages; supporting examinations for gynecological diseases; offering family planning services counseling; advising on safe abortion; caring for children's health; and administering expanded immunization,... meeting the requirements of level 4 in the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.
The work of a midwife is mainly conducted in specialized maternity and pediatric hospitals; maternity wards in central, provincial, and district hospitals; district health centers; commune and ward health stations, and communities. The work intensity of midwives at medical facilities is relatively high, requiring focus and a sense of responsibility. To ensure the job is done well, midwives need a working environment with adequate facilities, labor protection equipment, medical equipment, and appropriate regulations and rules of the workplace.
Midwives need to be in good health, have professional ethics, and possess adequate knowledge, skills, and attitudes pertaining to their profession to meet job requirements. Additionally, midwives must have a high level of conscience and responsibility, a passion for their profession, and continuously strive to enhance the ethical qualities of medical practitioners.
It should be noted that the minimum knowledge volume for the mid-level midwifery discipline is 1,700 hours (equivalent to 60 credits).
