On August 12, 2011, the State Bank of Vietnam issued Circular 15/2011/TT-NHNN regulating the carrying of foreign currency, Vietnamese dong cash by individuals upon entry and exit.
What documents shall individuals present when carrying foreign currency out of Vietnam? (Illustrative image)
According to Article 3 of Circular 15/2011/TT-NHNN, regulations are provided for the documents to be presented to Customs at border checkpoints when individuals carry foreign currency in cash or Vietnamese currency in cash and need to declare as follows:
- A certification of carrying foreign currency in cash, Vietnamese currency in cash abroad (hereafter referred to as the Certification) issued by a licensed credit institution in accordance with the legal regulations on foreign exchange management;
- A written approval for the individual to carry foreign currency in cash, Vietnamese currency in cash abroad, issued by the State Bank of Vietnam.
Note: The entry-exit declaration form confirmed by border checkpoint Customs about the amount of foreign currency in cash, Vietnamese currency in cash brought in during the nearest entry is only valid for the individual to carry foreign currency in cash, Vietnamese currency in cash abroad during the next exit within 12 months from the date recorded on the entry-exit declaration form.
