Vietnam: What is the intermediate-level/college-level mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering?

Recently, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in Vietnam issued Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulating the minimum knowledge and competency requirements for graduates at intermediate and college levels for disciplines and professions in the mining engineering and other engineering fields.

Mine Electromechanical Engineering at College and Intermediate Levels, Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH

Under Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, college-level mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering is a discipline/profession in which the practitioner performs tasks (directly or indirectly) supporting the extraction of beneficial minerals by pit methods, meeting the requirements of level 5 in the Vietnamese Qualifications Framework. Intermediate-level mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering is a discipline/profession in which the practitioner performs tasks (directly or indirectly) supporting the extraction of beneficial minerals by pit methods, meeting the requirements of level 4 in the Vietnamese Qualifications Framework.

Additionally, the practitioner also participates in maintaining, and repairing explosion-proof or non-explosion-proof electrical equipment in repair workshops on industrial surfaces. This ensures the development capacity and timely access to the development of mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering.

The mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering practitioner mainly works in underground mines with explosive gases and dust, humid air, and cramped working conditions resulting in challenges for maintenance, installation, repair, and operation of equipment. In addition, the mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering practitioner also works in electromechanical repair workshops on the surface at mines exploiting minerals by underground mining methods.

The main jobs of the mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering profession include: installing, operating, repairing, and maintaining power supply systems; specialized equipment used in underground mining, including all explosion-proof and spark-safe equipment used in underground mines such as power supply systems (grid stations, substations, loading and transporting equipment, mining equipment, hydraulic equipment, drilling equipment... breaking rocks, minerals (manually, semi-mechanically, mechanically or by drilling and blasting); participating in handling incidents during production such as roof collapses, gas explosions, or groundwater outbursts, ensuring compliance with technical design requirements, achieving productivity and quality, and meeting safety standards as prescribed.

More details may be found in Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH effective February 10, 2019.
