Vietnam: Skills required for graduates from intermediate-level mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering under Circular 50

Recently, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs in Vietnam issued Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulating the minimum knowledge and competency requirements for graduates at intermediate and college levels for disciplines and professions in the mining engineering and other engineering fields.

Circular 50/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulates that graduates from intermediate-level mine pit mechanical and electrical engineering in Vietnam must acquire the following skills:

- Be able to read electrical diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and hydraulic diagrams of mining equipment;

- Replace electrical cables to extend their lifespan and ensure economic and technical efficiency in cable usage and operation as per approved plans;

- Organize and implement plans and measures to repair and replace electromechanical equipment used in underground mining production lines;

- Prepare tasks for the production shift as stipulated;

- Operate process for automatic control systems in transportation technology, ventilation, mine gas monitoring, and underground mine drainage pumping;

- Install, connect, and repair electrical cable systems in underground mines;

- Maintain, install, repair, and operate low voltage manual circuit breakers and electrical devices in lighting systems;

- Install, maintain, repair, operate, and replace fuses, control relays, and protective relays in low voltage power grids;

- Use low voltage electrical measuring instruments;

- Maintain, install, operate, and repair common automatic circuit breakers;

- Maintain, install, operate, and repair explosion-proof circuit breakers in low voltage power grids;

- Maintain, install, and operate electrical equipment in network stations up to 6KV;

- Maintain, install, operate, and repair mining pumps and drilling equipment in underground mines;

- Maintain, install, and operate pneumatic and ventilation equipment in underground mines;

- Install, operate, and repair communication equipment in mines;

- Maintain, install, and operate loading and transporting equipment, mining extraction equipment, and tunnel boring equipment;

- Rewind and restore small capacity electric machines;

- Organize and implement tasks in the production line with mining electromechanical equipment as per regulations;

- Troubleshoot common incidents during the operation of mining electromechanical equipment meeting production requirements;

- Select cable cross-sections according to load power as per technical requirements;

- Implement local grounding and common grounding for equipment as per technical requirements; measure the grounding resistance of the underground mine grounding network;

- Use basic information technology as per regulations; apply information technology to some specialized tasks of the profession;

- Use basic foreign language skills, achieving level 1/6 in Vietnam's foreign language proficiency framework; apply foreign language skills to some specialized tasks of the profession.
