This is an important provision in Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP issued by the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam on October 06, 2020 regarding the technical ranking for pilots and crew members in the Vietnam People's Army Force.
Vietnam: Provision of at least 4 training courses for trainees is required to be a Rank 3 military flight instructor (Illustrative Image)
Under Article 22 of Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP, the standards of Rank 3 flight instructor pilots, principal pilot instructors, dual-role pilots, and military air navigators in Vietnam are as follows:
- Qualifications in piloting technique, navigation, and task performance capability:
+ Being a flight instructor pilot, principal pilot instructor, dual-role pilot, and military air navigator;
+ Being approved as an instructor for 100% of flight course modules in the trainee training curriculum;
+ Having undergone tests and been approved for task performance, flying technical maneuver course modules, navigation, and combat application suitable to the aircraft's functionality as per the combat training curriculum, Flight Regulations issued by the competent authority, meeting the training, advanced training, and combat readiness requirements;
+ Providing at least 4 training courses for trainees and having at least 7 trainees graduated.
- Flight hours standards:
+ Total accumulated flight hours for jet aircraft instructors ≥ 550 hours; for initial airplane instructors, principal pilot instructors, dual-role pilots, and military air navigators ≥ 600 hours;
+ Accumulated flight hours on the current flying aircraft for conversion pilots and flight crew members ≥ 50 hours.
Simultaneously, under Article 23 of Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP, the standards of Rank 2 flight instructor pilots, principal pilot instructors, dual-role pilots, and military air navigators in Vietnam are as follows:
- Qualifications in piloting technique, navigation, and task performance capability:
+ Being a Rank 3 flight instructor pilot, principal pilot instructor, dual-role pilot, and military air navigator;
+ Having undergone tests and been approved for task performance, approved as flight instructors for course modules as stipulated in point c, clause 1, Article 22 of Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP;
+ Providing at least 7 training courses for trainees and having 11-13 trainees graduated.
- Flight hours standards:
+ Total accumulated flight hours for jet aircraft instructors ≥ 800 hours; for initial airplane instructors, principal pilot instructors, dual-role pilots, military air navigators ≥ 850 hours;
+ Accumulated flight hours on the current flying aircraft for conversion pilots and flight crew members ≥ 80 hours.
Moreover, under Article 24 of Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP, the standards of Rank 2 flight instructor pilots, principal pilot instructors, dual-role pilots, and military air navigators in Vietnam are as follows:
- Qualifications in piloting technique, navigation, and task performance capability:
+ Being a Rank 2 flight instructor pilot, principal pilot instructor, dual-role pilot, and military air navigator;
+ Having undergone tests and been approved for task performance, approved as flight instructors for training course modules as stipulated in point c, clause 1, Article 22 of this Circular;
+ Providing at least 9 training courses for trainees and having 14-17 trainees graduated.
- Flight hours standards:
+ Total accumulated flight hours for jet aircraft instructors ≥ 1100 hours; for initial airplane instructors, principal pilot instructors, dual-role pilots, and military air navigators ≥ 1150 hours;
+ Accumulated flight hours on the current flying aircraft for conversion pilots and flight crew members ≥ 120 hours.
