Vietnam: Instructions for determining the number of price units for conducting ship inspections

On November 11, 2016, the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam issued Circular 234/2016/TT-BTC stipulating the service prices for inspection of technical safety and quality of ships, offshore structures; industrial products installed on ships, offshore structures; assessment, certification of safety management systems and approval, inspection, evaluation, and certification of maritime labor.

The number of unit prices according to the time of performing the inspection work (DVG_TG) is determined by the formula:

DVG_TG = 400 x k.

Where:

- 400: The number of unit prices calculated for one time of performing the inspection work;

- Ships classified by the Vietnam Register, coefficient k = 1;

- Ships classified by foreign registers, coefficient k = 1.5;

- Offshore structures, coefficient k = 2.5.

Also according to Circular 234/2016/TT-BTC, the value of a unit price (α) is determined as follows:

- For ships under the supervision of the Vietnam Register: α = 1,700 VND.

- For ships flying the Vietnamese flag or foreign flags classified by foreign registers, and offshore structures under the supervision of the Vietnam Register: α = 0.50 US Dollar.

Relevant provisions can be found in Circular 234/2016/TT-BTC effective from January 01, 2017.
