Standards for Teachers Participating in the Excellent Teaching Contest at General Education Institutions in 2020

According to Circular 22/2019/TT-BGDDT, teachers participating in the Excellent Teacher Contest in General Education Institutions from February 12, 2020, must meet the following standards corresponding to each level:

- Teachers participating in the School-level Contest must meet the following standards: Teachers participating in the School-level Contest must meet professional standards at a fairly good level or higher in the year immediately preceding the year of the contest. Among these, the criteria of Standard 2 (Professional and Vocational Development Standard) as stipulated in Circular 20/2018/TT-BGDDT dated August 22, 2018, by the Minister of Education and Training, must be at the good level.

- Teachers participating in the District-level Contest must meet the following standards:

- Meet the standards of teachers participating in the School-level Contest;- Have one year recognized as an excellent teacher at the school level in the 02 years immediately preceding or recognized as an excellent teacher at the school level in the year of the contest.

- Teachers participating in the Province-level Contest must meet the following standards:

- For primary and lower secondary teachers participating in the Province-level Contest: Meet the standards of teachers participating in the School-level Contest; have one year recognized as an excellent teacher at the district level in the 02 years immediately preceding or recognized as an excellent teacher at the district level in the year of the contest.- For upper secondary teachers participating in the Province-level Contest: Meet the standards of teachers participating in the School-level Contest; have one year recognized as an excellent teacher at the school level in the 02 years immediately preceding or recognized as an excellent teacher at the school level in the year of the contest.

In addition, the Circular specifies the content of the contest for excellent teachers in general education institutions as follows:

- Teach one lesson according to the teaching plan at the time of the contest. The lesson for the contest is organized for the first time in the classroom with the original number of students in that class. Teachers are not allowed to pre-teach (practice teach) the lesson for the contest in the school year of the contest. Teachers are notified and have time to prepare for the lesson no more than 02 days before the contest date;

- Present a measure to improve the quality of individual teaching work at the educational institution where the teacher is working. The presentation time for the measure is no more than 30 minutes, including the time for questions from the Judging Panel. The measure must be confirmed by the educational institution's leadership as effectively applied and used for the first time to register for the excellent teacher contest in general education institutions and not used for individual achievement recognition before.
