Rights That Tourists Should Know

The Tourism Law of 2017 stipulates that tourists include domestic tourists, international tourists to Vietnam, and outbound tourists. However, not all tourists are aware of their rights when participating in a tour.

Tourists are entitled to the following rights:

- Use tourism services provided by tourism business organizations or individuals or travel independently;- Request tourism business organizations or individuals to provide information about the program, services, and tourist destinations as per the signed contract;- Be facilitated in matters of entry, exit, transit, customs, accommodation, and travel within the territory of Vietnam in accordance with the regulations of the law and international treaties to which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a member;- Have their legal rights and interests guaranteed according to the contract signed with the tourism service providers;- Be treated equally; be assured of safety for their lives, health, and property while using tourism services; be respected in terms of dignity and honor; be rescued in emergency situations;- Lodge complaints, accusations, and file lawsuits against acts violating tourism law;- Recommend to the management organization or individual of tourist areas, tourist destinations, tourism service providers, and competent state agencies on issues related to tourism activities;- Be compensated for damages as per the provisions of the law.

However, tourists must also comply with the following obligations:

- Comply with the laws of Vietnam and the laws of the destination country or territory; behave civilly, respect local customs, traditions, and cultural identity; protect and conserve tourism resources and environment; and not harm the national image and cultural traditions of Vietnam;- Adhere to the rules of the tourist area, tourist destination, and tourism service providers;- Pay for service fees as per the contract, fees, and charges as prescribed by law;- Compensate for damages as prescribed by civil law.
