Requirements for exploration, topographical basis, and land surveying in Vietnam

On December 28, 2015, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued Circular 74/2015/TT-BTNMT regulating the exploration, classification of reserves, and resources of Apatite minerals.

Requirements for exploration, topographical basis, and land surveying in Vietnam

According to Article 10 of Circular 74/2015/TT-BTNMT, general requirements for exploration are defined as follows:

- Implement based on the principle from unknown to known, sequentially exploring from the surface downwards, the exploration grid from sparse to dense, and mapping geology from small scale to large scale.

- Collect complete information, data, geological documents, hydrogeological, engineering geological, environmental geological conditions, and mining conditions to serve the assessment, investment project development in mineral exploitation, and mine design.

- The exploration sequence is built based on compatibility with the complexity of geological structure, reserve scale, and economic value of the mine.

- Carry out exploration across the entire area and depth of the ore body existing within the boundaries selected in the exploration project.

Additionally, Article 11 of Circular 74/2015/TT-BTNMT stipulates requirements for topographical basis and land surveying specifically as follows:

- The exploration area must conduct mapping with a corresponding scale as required by the exploration work. The topographic map must be established according to current regulations on land surveying in mineral exploration. The scale of topographic maps ranges from 1/5,000 to 1/1,000, depending on geological structure, ore body scale, and terrain complexity.

- All exploration works, mining works (if any), and corner points of the exploration area must have coordinates and elevations determined and must be connected to the national coordinate network according to current geodetic-geological regulations.

For more details, see Circular 74/2015/TT-BTNMT, effective from February 15, 2016.
