Principles of management and remediation of contaminated sites in Vietnam

This content is specified in Circular No. 30/2016/TT-BTNMT on management, improvement and remediation of the environment which is contaminated by residual contamination, issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam on October 12, 2016.

According to Circular No. 30/2016/TT-BTNMT of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam, principles of management and remediation of contaminated sites are as follows:

- For low-level contaminated sites, the environmental remediation plans shall be made according to contamination control measures (hereinafter referred to as “contaminated site control project”).

- For medium and high-level contaminated sites, decontamination plans shall be made according to environmental remediation measures (hereinafter referred to as “decontamination plan”).

- High-level contaminated sites shall be prioritized to decontaminate.

- Advanced, environmentally-friendly and competitive-pricing technologies should be applied.

- Decontamination plans shall be made in conformity with the land-use planning approved by the competent authority.
