Overview of the Pulp and Paper Production Industry at the College Level

On December 28, 2018, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs issued Circular 49/2014/TT-BYT stipulating the minimum amount of knowledge and competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation at the intermediate level and college level in fields, occupations related to materials, metallurgy, production, and other technical technologies.

According to the Regulations on the minimum amount of knowledge and competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation from the intermediate and college levels in the pulp and paper manufacturing technology sector, issued together with Circular 46/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, it is stipulated that the college-level pulp and paper manufacturing technology sector involves producing pulp and various types of paper from plant materials (wood, bamboo, rattan...) and from recycled paper, meeting level 5 requirements in the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework.

The main job positions in this sector include: Implementing occupational safety measures, processing materials, producing chemical pulp, recovering chemicals after cooking, producing thermo-mechanical pulp, testing during the pulp manufacturing process, preparing pulp and additives, operating paper machines, operating paper coating machinery, operating finishing sections, testing during the paper and cardboard manufacturing process, recycling waste paper, waste treatment, production organization, and management.

Professionals in the Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Technology field typically work in manufacturing workshops, businesses dealing with pulp and paper products, or quality control laboratories. The job usually involves constant interaction with machinery and equipment operating continuously in a production line, sometimes exposed to high temperature, noise, and chemicals. The work demands high technical and occupational safety standards, and such jobs are often collective in nature. Therefore, laborers must possess adequate knowledge, health, dedication to their profession, the ability to work in teams, and the capability to apply new technologies.

Minimum amount of knowledge: 2,400 hours (equivalent to 85 credits).
