Overview of the College-level Garment Equipment Repair Industry

On February 10, 2019, Circular 47/2018/TT-BLDTBXH of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (BLDTBXH) promulgating regulations on the minimum amount of knowledge, competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation from intermediate, college levels in mechanical engineering fields took effect.

In the Regulation on the minimum required knowledge volume and the competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation at intermediate and college levels in the sewing equipment repair major, promulgated together with Circular 47/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, it is stipulated that the college-level major in sewing equipment repair is a profession where practitioners perform maintenance and repair of equipment in garment factories. This ensures that the technological equipment system is always in the best working condition, contributing to productivity, product quality, cost savings in production, and promoting sustainable development for garment manufacturing enterprises, meeting Level 5 requirements in the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.

Learners of the Sewing Equipment Repair profession work independently and in groups with tasks such as: directly calibrating and repairing equipment on production lines; researching and designing manufacturing jigs and fixtures for production; installing equipment according to the layout and production requirements; trading and supplying various types of spare parts and equipment for the sewing industry; managing and circulating equipment when production orders change; updating equipment management records; advising and consulting leaders on investment in procurement, disposal of assets, and equipment...

For the sewing equipment repair profession, the main tools and equipment include: various types of screwdrivers, cold hammers, pliers, wrench sets, hex keys, metal cutting shears, measuring instruments, grinders, drills, soldering irons, computers, maintenance management software, and other specialized devices. Additionally, there are various raw materials used in the sewing industry, handbooks...

The profession’s tasks are mainly carried out in textile enterprises, equipment supply and spare parts businesses in the sewing industry, sewing equipment manufacturing and assembly plants, and foreign equipment manufacturing companies. The working environment and conditions are favorable, ensuring safety and health. This is not an overly labor-intensive profession but is subject to time pressure, requiring agility, flexibility, quality, and work efficiency in the context of continuously changing and developing science and technology.

Note that the minimum required knowledge volume is 2,500 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).
