Introduction to the Refrigeration Equipment Operation and Maintenance Department at the College Level

From February 10, 2019, Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH of BLDTBXH stipulates the minimum amount of knowledge and competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation from intermediate level, college level in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, and telecommunications will be in effect.

According to the Regulations on the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that learners achieve after graduating at the intermediate level and college level in the field of operation and maintenance of refrigeration equipment, issued together with Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the operation and maintenance of refrigeration equipment at the college level is a field in which the professionals specialize in the operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration equipment at production and business facilities using refrigeration equipment such as post-harvest processing and preservation plants, breweries, pharmaceutical plants, dairy plants, textile mills, supermarkets, restaurants, high-rise buildings, resorts, and refrigeration system installation units; consulting units, refrigeration equipment business and service establishments, meeting the level 5 requirements in the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.

The main tasks of the industry include: Operating industrial refrigeration systems, operating domestic and commercial air conditioning systems, maintaining industrial refrigeration systems, maintaining domestic and commercial air conditioning systems, repairing industrial refrigeration systems, repairing domestic and commercial air conditioning systems, trading, and servicing refrigeration materials and equipment, and providing professional consulting on the operation and maintenance of refrigeration equipment.

The working environment of individuals in the field of operation and maintenance of refrigeration equipment is often characterized by high intensity, temperature changes, noise, exposure to electrical equipment, pressure equipment, and refrigerants; dealing with time pressures and the requirement to ensure the satisfaction of businesses, customers, and partners.

To practice in this field, workers must have good health, good professional ethics, a spirit of cooperation, teamwork, sufficient professional knowledge, and skills to meet job positions, knowledge of foreign languages, information technology, and an understanding of Vietnamese law. Furthermore, they must continuously self-learn, update new issues, approach new and green technologies related to their trained field; continuously develop meticulous, detailed, and clear characteristics; build a sense of profession and passion for the job.

Minimum knowledge volume: 1,800 hours (equivalent to 65 credits).

Additionally, upon graduation, learners will have the competencies to meet the requirements at various job positions in the industry, including:

- Operating industrial refrigeration systems;- Operating domestic and commercial air conditioning systems;- Maintaining industrial refrigeration systems; maintaining domestic and commercial air conditioning systems; repairing industrial refrigeration systems;- Repairing domestic and commercial air conditioning systems;- Trading and servicing refrigeration materials and equipment.

Detailed regulations are specified in Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, issued on December 28, 2018.
