Introduction to the Refrigeration Equipment Installation Industry at College Level

On December 28, 2018, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) issued Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH regulating the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that learners must achieve after graduating from intermediate and college levels in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, and telecommunications.

According to the Regulations on Minimum Knowledge Volume and Competency Requirements that Learners Achieve After Graduating from Intermediate and College Levels in Refrigeration Equipment Installation issued together with Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, refrigeration equipment installation at the college level is an occupation where practitioners perform the tasks of installing and maintaining industrial refrigeration systems; deep-frozen cold storage systems for preserving various types of meat and fish, positive temperature cold storage for preserving vegetables and fruits with large volumes, quick freezing cabinets, IQF quick freezing conveyors, commercial cold storage for preserving products in supermarkets, restaurants, etc., following the correct procedures, meeting technical, aesthetic, and industrial hygiene safety requirements, and satisfying the level 5 requirements in Vietnam's National Qualification Framework.

The main tasks of the Refrigeration Equipment Installation occupation include: installing industrial refrigeration systems, installing commercial refrigeration systems, operating refrigeration systems, maintaining refrigeration systems, improving professional skills, organizing labor, and communicating with customers. The main equipment and tools used to perform the tasks of the occupation are: welding set, mechanical tool set, pipe bending and flaring tools, gas charging set, voltage and current measurement meters, insulation testing equipment, pressure testing equipment, vacuum pump, various drills, gas recovery machine, electric welding machine, heat pipe welding machine, gas leak detector, hoist, high-pressure pump, flow measurement devices, temperature and balance measurement tools, etc.

Practitioners can work in industrial zones, service zones, processing and preserving agricultural and food products, manufacturing plants for refrigeration equipment, processing plants for agricultural and food products, and enterprises that construct, repair, and maintain refrigeration equipment. The working environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings, places with variable heights, and exposure to electrical equipment, pressure equipment, hoists, and mechanical processing requiring high concentration and specialized skills.

The minimum knowledge volume: 1,800 hours (equivalent to 65 credits).

Note that after graduation, learners have the competence to meet the requirements at the job positions within the industry, including:

- Installing compressor unit;- Installing heat exchangers and expansion valves;- Installing piping systems;- Installing auxiliary equipment;- Installing electrical systems;- Adjusting and handing over systems;- Maintaining and servicing systems.

Detailed regulations are specified in Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, effective from February 10, 2019.
