GOVERNMENT OF VIETNAM ENCOURAGES ENVIRONMENTAL AUDITS IN ESTABLISHMENTS

To be specific:, Article 78 of the Draft Law on Environmental Protection (amended) has supplemented regulations on the content and encouragement of environmental audits as follows:

- Contents of environmental audit:

- Compliance audit of policies, legal regulations, and environmental protection goals of organizations and facilities, including: evaluating the compliance with environmental protection policies, legal regulations, and standards of organizations and production, business, service facilities; evaluating the implementation of environmental protection goals of organizations and facilities.

- Audit to evaluate the effectiveness of waste and energy management activities of organizations and production, business, service facilities, including: collecting information and data on raw materials, materials, water, and energy used in each stage; evaluating and identifying the type, source, composition, and volume of waste generated in each stage; calculating material balance, causes of waste generation; proposing solutions to minimize waste generation.

- the Government of Vietnam issues a mechanism to encourage facilities to conduct their own environmental audits or hire independent audit units to perform.

Thus, this Draft has supplemented some contents on environmental audits at facilities and encourages independent self-audits.
