On February 10, 2019, Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (BLDTBXH) promulgating regulations on the minimum volume of knowledge and competency requirements that learners must achieve upon graduation at the intermediate level, college level in technical fields of electricity, electronics, and telecommunications will take effect.

According to the Regulations on Minimum Knowledge Volume, Competency Requirements that Students Must Achieve After Graduating from Intermediate and College Levels for Marine Electrical Engineering issued together with Circular 48/2018/TT-BLDTBXH, the college-level marine electrical engineering is a profession where practitioners operate, calibrate electrical systems, maintain and repair electrical equipment and electrical systems on ships according to technical requirements, install electrical equipment systems on ships meeting the technical standards of registry; perform acceptance testing after installation and repair, meeting level 5 requirements in the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework.
Marine Electrical Engineering practitioners usually work on marine vessels, in shipbuilding, and repair yards. The working environment is typically confined, with high noise levels, strong vibrations, exposure to harsh weather conditions, involving both independent and collective work characterized by high discipline. Workers must be in good health, dedicated to the profession, have sufficient technical knowledge skills to perform tasks, and be able to quickly adapt to the job to complete assigned tasks.
Minimum knowledge volume: 2,500 hours (equivalent to 90 credits).
Note, after graduation, students are capable of meeting the requirements at job positions in the profession, including:
- Installing marine electrical systems;- Operating marine electrical systems;- Maintaining and repairing marine electrical systems;- Accepting/testing marine electrical systems.
Additionally, the minimum knowledge volume and competency requirements that students must achieve after graduating from the college-level Marine Electrical Engineering profession allow them to further develop to higher levels. Graduates have the competency for self-study, self-updating of scientific and technological advancements within the profession to enhance their qualifications or pursue higher education within the same or related fields.
