On May 22, 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Official Telegram 3427/CD-BCT on further implementation of solutions to ensure power supply in Vietnam during the peak period in 2024 and the following years in a strict, synchronized, and effective manner.
Specifically, in the recent period, following the directives of the Government, the Prime Minister, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity and relevant units have focused on directing the construction of power supply scenarios and implementing solutions to ensure an adequate power supply for the production and business activities of enterprises and the daily lives of people in a synchronized and effective manner, especially the preparation for electricity production during the peak period. At the same time, there has been a strong emphasis on regular inspection and supervision of the management and operation of the national power system to ensure safety, scientificity, and effectiveness. Thanks to the resolute and effective guidance of the Government, the Prime Minister, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, along with the efforts of the electricity sector, despite facing numerous difficulties and challenges, the supply of electricity to serve economic and social development and people's consumption has been well ensured since the beginning of 2024.
However, according to the feedback from some foreign-invested enterprises and social media platforms, there have been instances where power companies have requested voluntary reductions in electricity consumption from production enterprises. This information has caused misunderstandings in public opinion regarding the effective implementation of electricity supply solutions by various levels and sectors during the past period.
To continue the strict implementation of the Prime Minister's directives on ensuring an adequate power supply in all situations, the Minister of Industry and Trade has proposed that the Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee in enterprises direct and require the Chairman of the Council, the General Director of Vietnam Electricity, to strictly and effectively carry out the following contents:
- Continue to raise awareness of responsibility among leaders and the collective, strictly and resolutely implement the assigned tasks and solutions stated in the Resolutions of the Government, Directives, Official Telegrams, and guiding documents of the Prime Minister regarding ensuring a sufficient, continuous, and safe power supply in all situations, especially during the peak period in 2024 and the following years, to serve the production and business activities of enterprises and the daily lives of people.
- Proactively implement energy-saving and efficient electricity utilization solutions in a synchronized manner in accordance with the directives of the Prime Minister in Directive 20/CT-TTg dated June 8, 2023, on enhancing electricity savings during the period of 2023–2025 and the following years; provide guidance, encouragement for creativity in achieving the highest efficiency in electricity savings; no load regulation or reduction, except in emergency situations during operation.
- Strengthen communication efforts to foster social consensus and the participation of the business community in implementing energy-saving and efficient electricity utilization activities.
